"In response to your posting Kristina, I found that some side effects
to this drug include diarrhea, anorexia, upset stomach and flatus. It
is said that these side effects are minimal and should subside within
the first week. Her symptoms of the medication should've been
observed before starting the second week of therapy. If before the
second week of therapy the patient is not seeing improvement in
the side effects the medication dosage should not increase. As the
nurse I would notify the physician on the patient’s symptoms, more
than likely he will lower the dosage to 500 mg until the side effects
subside and do not become a bothersome. In the meanwhile, I
would administer the patient’s medication with meals to help reduce
her symptoms of her medication. Since she is experiencing diarrhea,
I would make sure to keep the patient hydrated with fluids and
assess her intake and output along with her daily weight.
Thank you for the question!"
This is the response I've gotten so far! I think she did a great job! Someone else posted that metformin could be used for PCOS in a seperate posting, I guess maybe she didn't read my question lol. I think more responses will flow in!
