Default I thought it was reversable

Hi I am new here and I just found out yesterday that I more then likely suffer from PCOS. I have to go for tests but all the symptons are there and my doctor thinks I do. Anyway, I asked about laser hair removal and she said that I should wait becasue the hair growth could be reversed with medication. Is this not the case? For those of you who have received treatment, do you still have facial hair?

Some medications do slow or stop the hair growth. Of course every woman responds to these medications differently. Some notice a vast improvement, some notice no change. Of course, if "no change" means "no worsening," even thoat should be considered improvement!

Personally, I would hold off on laser until you have your hormones more under control, be that with diet, exercise, metformin, birth control pills, spiro, what have you... all hair removal methods work better if your blood levels are in order. Otherwise it's like playing the whack-a-mole game, they'll just keep popping up elsewhere as fast as you treat 'em, and laser is an expensive undertaking...

I have had good success with laser on my chin. I am going to get it on my legs today - woo hoo, found a place with good rates!

My hair is growing suuuuper slow now, though, due to being post partum (I assume?) - which makes me wonder if I should bother with it now... on the other hand, it does give me hope that fast growing hair CAN be improved without external measures such as laser or electrolysis... hormones CAN do a lot.

I have done elctrolysis for almost 2 years. It was moderately helpful, but once I started taking MET in October, the regrowth slowed considerable and electro was much more effective. With MET things are under control enough that I am going to do laser.

I do wish I hadn't spent the first year doing electro without met, twas mostly a waste of money. Wait till hormones are under control. IMHO.

Default On a side note..

You know this is interesting- Somebody said that a hair follicle can live three years. I wonder how much my medication will have improved my hirsutism in three years. Either way it’s coming off because it will probably take about three years before I get the money to afford laser.

P.S. The lady that waxes my mom's upper lip said some women just stop growing hair after a few sessions.

There is some truth to this, once your hormones are normal, I think. Once I started taking met and got the PCOS under control, I noticed that waxing my inner thighs and sub-belly-button area did result in slower growing, finer, sparser hairs.

Previously, I never got the oft-promised great results, just coarser and coarser hair and lots of ingrowns.
