Just wanted to say hello to everyone as I will be lurking on the forums for the next few weeks trying to find out as much as I can about PCOS.
I am in the middle of a diagnosis, but it is most likely a definate, as I already have confirmed symptoms and my bloodwork shows PCOS levels.
I have A LOT to learn, and I am hoping I can gain some knowledge and support from this site.
A definate diagnoses would EXPLAIN a LOT in my life, esp in the past few years and the medical, mental health issues I have suffered.
I have been working with a holistic doctor for the past year after a horrible car accident to get my entire body/lifestyle in shape again, while at the same time discovering the possibility of PCOS.
My older sister, also has PCOS and has referred me to her specialist in philadelphia, where I will be going soon for further testing, etc.
Other than that, I am glad to find such a supportive community that can help me through this, and hopefuly I can gain some knowledge along the way.
By the way...my name is Amy, I just turned 25, and I live in the philly burbs!
Nice to be here.
-Aim

Hi and welcome! What does the holistic doctor suggest you do?
Well I have been seeing him for over a year since my car accident, he is very well known in the alternative medicine world and he comes from traditional medicine backround, ran a rehab hospital, surgeon. He treated my depression, anxiety, broken back, muscle spasms, GI problems, yeast problems, immunodefiecieny, nutrition and more perfectly. I am on a TON of supplements, SUPPOSED to be on an all organic diet, no sugars or carbs. He uses accupuncture, yoga, meditation, mixed with traditional medicine as well, has written many books, and basically saved my life, as I thought many times about taking my own. He is more of a friend at this point, and I am his apprentice. I brought up the possibility of PCOS becuase my sister was diagnosed, and some of my symptoms were VERY prevelant. In which case he did hormone bloodwork because my cycle is so messed up. my blood results showed high testosterone levels, low estrogen, etc.
I am currently having horrid GI problems and some recent anxiety and depression. We are currently working on getting those parts of my health back on track and then we will tackle the PCOS. The supplements, diet, and exercise program will all have positive results with the PCOS, so that is a plus right there. I'm on the road to whole body health, and this diagnosis only explains things.
Once i get some other health issues under control, I'll go see the PCOS specialist in philly and take it from there. I'm not a fan of western medicine, as my whole life has been affected by it, and my body is VERY sensitive to meds. I cant even keep track of my pills! i feel like im 90 years old sometimes! The good news is that I know I can get this under control. the path to healing is long and treacherous, but I'm getting there, and doing what I need to do.
After I almost lost my life in my car accident....I have come to appreciate life no matter how horrible I might feel on any given day.
Like i said, I have a lot to learn, and I hope to make some great friends a long the way.

OMG....made my appt with the PCOS center in philly. ITS NOT TILL DEC 17th! WHAT am i supposed to do until then? that's like 5 months. I am going to keep working with my current doctor on this, but I was hoping to get in a bit sooner..turns out Dr. Sharif is in the top ten for PCOS in the country or something like that. If she is THAT good I'm sure it's worth the wait.
