Default I've had ENOUGH with Yaz! And question...

Hi Ladies...this should probably just go in the 'rant' forum, but I just have to say that I have had enough with YAZ! I called my gyno mid-December for bcp's (I asked for either Yaz or Seasonique). I was spotting very lightly and wanted something that would make me stop. The Yaz made it sooo much worse! There have only been a handful of days without spotting and some days are pretty bad.

I called my gyno back yesterday to see if she would switch me. She said she couldn't until we waited three whole months. She told me to take 600mg of Motrin (or ibuprofen) to ease the spotting, but I decided I'm not taking Yaz anymore. If I'm going to spot, I'd rather just do it on my own and not pay $30 a month for it. I dind't have this problem with Ortho TriCyclen at all---I don't know why I didn't ask for it instead of Yaz.

Also, Yaz made me depressed and weepy. The only plus side is that I have not had one little blemish while taking it. I don't really have acne, but every now and then I'll get a tiny pimple on my jawline or something. Haven't had one while taking Yaz.

I know Yaz works great for a lot of women, and I should have *probably* stuck it out for the whole 3 months (though I'm doubtful), but I just wanted to share my experience for those considering Yaz, or those who are on it wondering WHAT. THE. HELL?

I'm only taking 1000mg of Metformin ER, raise your hand if you think increasing my dosage will eliminate the spotting. Maybe? :/ Thanks.

I just stopped taking Yaz on my own because when I went to the gyno for my annual and asked her if I could switch (this was after 3 months) because I was so emotional all of the time and crying at the drop of a hat. She told me "Maybe it's you". I was not happy with that. And now I've had enough so I stopped taking it on my own. I feel like I have no other option. I'm not sure if increasing your dosage will help. I am not on Metformin but hope to eventually be. Ugh. Just wanted to tell you, you're not the only one who Yaz doesnt work for. It's frustrating. Hang in there.

i have not taken yaz, but i do know that it can take a while for either the side effects to build up or for the initial "whoa" of starting a new drug to wear off. when i first started ortho tri cyclen, i broke out pretty bad with acne, but then it cleared up. so, perhaps the 3 months idea isn't all that bad, but if you really don't want to take it, it's your body.

Amity, it might work for you. It's different for everyone. BCP's just seem to mess with my hormones more than I care to allow. So I've stopped taking it at my own discretion because I am sick of crying for no reason and for being moody all of the time. Try it for at least 3 months and see how it works for you. It might be great.

I asked for Yaz because after trying 3 other pills over the course of 8 years I feel it will be the best for me, as I have an extremely high testosterone level. Yaz is I believe they call it monocyclic meaning the hormone levels do NOT fluctuate during the active pills. I had noticed with every other pill still having mood swings, hunger pangs, night sweats, PMS. So far I have not had these on yaz, but I am also taking 2 evening primrose capsules every day with lunch. I have to say that since I started that alone, I have been very pleased. I even feel my hair is thicker!

I didn't even finish my first full month on YAZ. My experience was horrible so I stopped taking it a few days before the inactive pills. I got terrible migraines and a raging yeast infection that took 2 and a half weeks to get rid of.

Default Yaz

Yeah I was on Yaz for over 3 months....but I noticed I was really irratable ALL the time...cry very easy...I couldn't deal with it and pretty sure that my husband and father in law(who lives with us) couldn't either much longer...hahahah...

I've been off of them for almost a month and I feel so "normal" now...even though I haven't gotten my period this month! A little spotting so far nothing even similiar to a period. ///I did however go to the doc Wed of this past week and didn't tell her that I took myself off the Yaz! She was wanting me on it to straighten out my period and to keep me from getting preg for now....I'll tell her next time!

I spotted on Yaz, but I have no problems with Yasmin. Yaz has a lower dose of estrogen, and that's probably why I had spotting issues with it.

My first month on Yaz, I started my period in the third week of active pills. My doctor had me skip to the inactive pills and then start a new pack. When I bled during that pack, I demanded to be switched back to Yasmin. Luckily, my doctor agreed. She has been very good about hearing what I have to say about my meds, and that's why I love her!!!

Yasmin has the same progesterone component as Yaz and has the same anti-androgenic effect. Yasmin contains 21 active pills and 7 non-active pills, whereas Yaz has 24 and 4.

Upping your dose of Met may help better regulate your hormones, but I haven't heard it stopping bleeding of any sort. Perhaps after a few weeks/months of being on a higher does of Met your hormones will be regulated and therefore the bleeding will stop (provided that the bleed is related to hormones).

BCPs are supposed to help stop a bleed by altering your hormones in a way that is different from the way Met does (if that makes sense).

Just like some women have great luck with Yaz, we are all so different! If you think that a higher dose of Met will help, can't hurt to talk to your doc about it! Sometimes I think that half the battle is being comfortable with your treatment, IMO anyways.

Best of luck with whatever you decide!

I couldn't get over the breast tenderness. Never so bad in my life as when I tried Yaz. Now on seasonale, which is good since I only have to worry about cycling 4 times a year now.

I just started taking Yaz and I started to bleed in the third week of active pills. I think I might give it 3 months and if things don't change I am going to talk to my MD and see about switching.

That was me last fall, but I only stayed on it for about 2 months. I really liked the antiandrogenic effects of Yaz, but IMO, it didn't have enough estrogen for my body, and that's why I'd have breakthrough bleeding. Since Yasmin worked in the past, we decided on that.

It's very similar to Yaz but it has more estrogens. I get the same positive effects as with Yaz, but I don't have the spotting.

Well my OB had given me a prescription for the Yaz, but I only took the 1 month sample she gave me. I had a couple of moods when I was taking Yaz crying or angry. My BF is loving and supportive but I think he was getting tired of the rants at times. Now I am currently trying Loestrin24Fe so lets see how that goes.
