Default I want a new BCP.. do I just ASK for the one I want?

I made an appointment with my gyno for tuesday because I absolutely can't stand my Ocvon 35 anymore. I want to switch to mircette or back to Yaz, but the reason he originally took me off yaz is because I was bleeding like a stuck pig, and that "definitely isnt normal." Should I just ask him to put me back on yaz? or ask for mircette? or just accept what HE wants to put me on?(he didn't even ask me if I wanted ovcon 35, he just wrote the scrip, then left and that was it.. i kinda felt like i didn't have a choice with him.)

I went into my GYN armed with info about the two BCPs I was willing to try. I have tried a ton with no success. We talked about pros and cons of each and I ended up on one I wanted. I say, go in there with info and come out with one you want.

I'm kind of wondering about seasonique, too. Has anyone been on it?

I find that really odd.

When you go to the dr. I would tell him that you aren't happy with your current BCP. I would also research ones and tell him you would like to try one of those and see what he says. If he says know, ask him why. Whenever I go to the doctor, I always ask a lot of questions, especially if it is about something I am going to be putting into my body. Write your questions down before you go in so you don't forget anything.

Ya, you can totally request a specific BC, or you can ask your doctor. I would hope that you trust your doc enough to suggest one for you, and that he or she has enough experience that he or she would be able to make suggestions.

Its not that I don't TRUST him to make the decision FOR me.. I've just been doing some "studying" and I know which one I want to try. I just didn't know if it would seem RUDE if i just outright asked him for it.. or like i'm trying to do his job for him or something.

When I was looking to switch the BCP that I was on I went in and explained why I wanted to switch. I had asked about a specific BCP and she said that she wouldn't recommend that one for me, explained why (in a way that made sense to my non-doctor self) and then recommended another one and explained why she thought that one would be good for ME. It's definitely worth an actual conversation with your doc - pros, cons, you name it!

I've got to tell you, it's time to consider finding a new Doc. Being comfortable with, feeling like he/she spends all the time you need with you, having an open dialogue with your Doc is SO important!!! It's your RIGHT, AND RESPONSIBILITY, as a patient to to make sure you come out of your appointment feeling heard and with all of your questions answered. Many people write down questions ahead of time to ask in case you have "white coat syndrome." Also, doing research ahead of time about different types of BCP is also a good idea. That way you have more information with which to have a conversation about your health managment rather than his dictation of it.

In this male dominated society, the importance of having an active role in your health care descision is of the utmost importance. Feel free to email me if you have any concerns or questions about how to do this.

I went today.. im getting a new doctor. He speaks to me in such a demeaning tone.. i cry when I leave his office EVERY TIME. The good thing is, though, he's putting me back on yaz... so i'm very happy about that.
