Question I want to start taking VITEX...how....

I need some help in figuring this out. I want to take VITEX. So my questions are as follows :

1) where do I get it? Can I get it at a local pharmacy OTC?

2) How much do I take?

3) How often do I take it and when?

4) How will I know if its helping me?

5) Who has had success with it?

6) Can I take it when using injectables?

7) How do I know when to start it?

8) Can I take VITEX when taking AVANDIA 8mg??

I take prometrium every month on the 18th and then stop about the 25/26th of each month if my blood preg test is negative...(never been a positive) So do I take it when I am on my period or every day? I weigh 231lbs and I am 5"3 ( i think i carry the weight okay) I also am taking Avanida 8mg every night. Let see, I will be starting Atkins this coming Monday (hubby is leaving for a week, I think it will be easier for me to start when he is gone!)

Please help me with this ANYONE I just want some good answers...

I get my vitex as a fruit and I make my tincture myself with apple cider vinegar and glycerin. I tried it as pill but it did not work. It seems doing better in liquid form.

2) How much do I take?
I take 30 drops twice a day

3) How often do I take it and when?
I take everyday except when I get my period. My cycle now aver 30-34 days

4) How will I know if its helping me?
First month, I ovulated on CD 15. I felt it. My temp raised. I got my period 14 days later.

5) Who has had success with it?
Me. However, I have not gotten pg because my DH has not a good sperm count.

6) Can I take it when using injectables?
No

7) How do I know when to start it?
I would start the first day of your period the first month then do like I do, stop it during the period to give your body a break.

8) Can I take VITEX when taking AVANDIA 8mg??
I cannot see why not. Avandia reduces the resistance to insuline if my memory is correct and Vitex helps balancing your LH and FSH.

I am a weird PCOS. I weight 139 ( not 140!!) and is 5'5''. I do not have resistance to insulin nor a problem with my surrenal glands. My LH:FSH is almost 1:1 now for the past year or so. I have been on herbs since then. My RE gave me metformin, clomid, femara and decadron but my hormones were horrible whit that. Nothing worked so I tried the natural way. Now everything is normal in my blood works. My ovaries are still polycystic however, i had an US recently.

I hope this helps you.

you should not use prometrium and vitex together. Prometrium is an Rx, right? (progesterone supliment?) Before you take prometrium, do you have a confirmed O? If not, you would be preventing o. You can either continue vitex after o, or switch to a natural progesterone cream from a health food store, which is where I get my vitex from.

Yes, I've been successful. i even got pg a year ago, but m/c'd after just a couple of days.

You can start at a lower dose of 400mg./day and work up if you want to. 800mg (check your bottle if you use tincture for the #of drops to equal 800 mg.) is a good amount too.

Some women notice it working right away. My first month i had a shorter cycle, and my lp was longer, but it can take up to 6 months to even out horomones and notice a big difference.

If bekkah's around, She broke out at first, i think, but after a cycle or two of sticking with it, things cleared up and she seems happy with it...Bekkah??

Absolutely do not take it with injectibles or clomid. They can interact/react/cancel each other out, etc. NOT GOOD FOR YOU TO DO.

I usually take it from last day of af (or anytime before I o) and stop after confirmation because I use NPC after o. Other women continue use after o until af or confirmed pg. It's really up to you..I did read recently that after 1 year you should take a break from it, Or, you can go 3 cycles on, 1 cycle off.

You will want to figure out what you feel is best for you and go with your gut feeling....hth

I started Vitex the end of September and so far I'm very happy with the results. It has helped to shorten my af from nearly two weeks, to a week. Af is also nowhere near as heavy. Like Paige mentioned, I did break out the first cycle and about 1/2 of the way into the 2nd cycle. Basically white and black heads, not the cystic acne. At the time I was taking 500mgs a day. When I started my 3rd cycle I upped the dosage to 1000mgs a day. Since then my face has been pimple free, my sex drive has increased, my breasts are a little bit bigger (I don't know why but it is true) and I just feel better in general. The one down side is that I have not o'd on my own yet. However it can take up to six months for the full effects to start, so I have to be patient.

By the way, I take it every day of my cycle. I started on cd3. I also take Met for IR so I would think it would be ok with Avandia.

Good Luck,

I take Vitex (from GNC, called Fingerprinted Vitex) every day (one capsule). Since starting it my AF has become somewhat regular (at least appearing every month or six weeks) where as on the Gluc XR alone it was only coming every three to six months on it's own.

GOOD LUCK! I am VERY happy with Vitex!!

Default I was thinking

About giving Vitex a try. I haven't seen AF since November.
I have an RX for provera...should I take the provera to get another AF and then start the Vitex? Or should I just start taking the Vitex now?

help!

I waited until af came, but I'm fairly regular on Met (25 to 35 days as opposed to months pre-Met). However, if you do an hpt and are not pg, I don't think it would hurt to start right away.

Good Luck,

Does anyone know of a relatively inexpensive online store that sends Vitex and prog cream to Canada? I'm hoping for tincture form for the vitex as I doubt I can get the chaste berry fruit and brew my own tincute here.

Thank you in andvance.

I have never found a tincture form of vitex, BUT I finally found capsules of vitex at Sangsters health food, but it cost $22 for 60 pills! But I also found it last week not even looking for it at a grocery store called IGA for $10! I would have tried the NPC first if we could actually get it in Canada I know there are some ladies on here from canada who use NPC! But like you said I would be interested in a places as well that is a trustworthy place to order from! The only thing we have in canada is wild yam cream, and I have read that it is not supose to work nearly as good as NPC!

This is what I use. I buy it at GNC, but if there is not one where you are at, you can order it from Drugstore.com and they ship to Canada.

This is the link to the actual product at drugstore.com

GNC Fingerprinted Vitex

I used vitex to get pregnant with my son! It totally worked for me. I had my first ovulation 2 months after starting it and I got my +++ that cycle. I wasn't taking anything else. You don't have to wait for AF to start it. You can start any time! I used the capsule form but apparently the extract works even better!

Just wanted to add a little update! I have been on vitex for about three weeks now, and so far I LOVE IT! I am lacking in progesterone so my cycles have been averaging around 16 days for the last four months! So for me that was meaning 8 days of bleeding, and then 8 days without AF, and then she would return!

Right now I am on cycle day 20 and AF is not here yet!!!!! YEAH!!!

I am going to start temping again when I get my next period to see if I have started to O or not!

I'll keep ya posted on how it's working! but so far I am in love! I am taking 1- 450 mgs pill before bed everyday!
