Default I wish I wasnt thin

Does this sound ridiculous? i wish solving my anovulation was as easy as losing weight.

My friend has PCOS and gets her period once a year, so I told her sometimes exercising and losing weight helps with it. She started exercising and in the last two months she's already had 2 normal periods

I know grass is greener... but i hate googling "thin PCOS" and the first result says "thin women with PCOS have more firmly entrenched hormonal and infertility problems."

sorry for the stupid rant

Red face

I feel your pain. I get jealous sometimes of women with proven insulin resistance because that is another way that they can approach PCOS. I'm happy for them to regain their fertility but, boy, it would be great if there were a way thin cysters could improve/regain our fertility.
We are lucky that weight is not an issue though. I did try to gain weight when I was younger (in my 20s) to see if that would help my fertility and it didn't.
I have heard that insulin sensitizing medication has helped some thin cysters so that is also a possibility.
If I do not conceive on Clomid again I am going to try Hyponidd or D-chiro-inositol. I tried Glucophage before but couldn't tolerate the side effects.
Hang in there!

I'm with you guys too. There is no easy answer - every month I fluctuate between hope & disappointment (especially now that I'm on Met) and I have no idea how to stay hopeful when all I want to do is guard my heart from disappointment from my chronic annovulation. You're not alone!

Hey girls, hang in there. Recent research proves that insulin sensitizing drugs help thin women just as much, regardless of insulin issues. I know it sounds fishy but it's true. I'm a thin cyster too and found that eating low carb really helps me to ovulate, even though they haven't found any insulin issues with me.

Be careful what you read on the internet, I just did a massive search on pubmed and most studies agree that thin cysters have a higher conception rate.

I eat small meals, many times throughout the day. Start with a glass of fibre mixed with oj in the morning (really stabilizes blood sugar and controls hunger) then I eat a yogurt and some fruit, then I eat snacks like carrots and celery and nuts whenever I get a bit hungry, so I'm never starving.
For lunch I'll have a soup or sandwich, I don't eat that many carbs but when I do it's always multigrain or wholewheat. I allow myself some pasta and rice. Lots of beans and chickpeas and grains. And I allow myself any meat.

This month I haven't been sticking to my diet unfortunately but when I do it works wonders! Oh, I also take my supplements which help.

Basically, my theory is to eat lots of fresh veggies and fruit to curb hunger, don't let people tell you that they are carbs! They are great for blood sugar levels.

Of course we understand! Just don't try bringing this up outside of the thin cysters section!

oh man, I didn't know that. I guess I'm completely oblivious, because I guess I figured that my PCOS wasn't as bad because I'm not overweight.

When there are height/weight polls (like there were recently two and everyone was polled for their height/weight/dress size) I feel bad reporting mine because I know that I'm thinner than many women on here. I can't remember the thread, but one about a year ago got on the topic of weight and BMI and when I said mine, someone said something like, "you can't understand what it's like for the other 99% of cysters who have weight problems"

I know that's true. I know that I cannot understand their plight and I definitely don't envy it. But it made me feel like I wasn't part of the "club" for a while even though I deal with many other PCOS symptoms and hardships.

yeah, I dont think this thread would have gone on well on the other boards

Ttara, I know what you mean, it is really confusing dealing with all this being thin. Because my friend was "cured" right away just by exercising (she might have lost 5 pounds or so) I was SO JEALOUS. And it's like UGH I wish if I lost a couple pounds I would get my period like normal.. but I cant afford to lose a couple pounds without looking like a stick lol.

The thing I envy the most about the cysters that are overweight is that they know exactly what to do to help their PCOS. With me, my doc just says here is some medicine to bring on your period if you dont get it soon enough...good luck and adios!

hi ladies.
i'm with you on this one the too.
i'm 5'6" and only 53kg.

i was only saying the other day after reading this place for a few days that it seems the first answer to what to do when TTC is to loose weight.which is all well and good if you have it to loose.
if i lost more weight i would be too thin!

does anyone know of anything else you can do?? i'm currently on the hunt for any answers i can get.
thanks ladies. good luck to all this year!

yeah, there was a thread a while ago that was asking if they thought PCOS caused people to be obese and I answered no, since I have PCOS and am not obese. Well, people didn't like that and one REALLY didn't like it and told me to shut up in large font and I was just stating my opinion on it...

sheepiegirl - exactly. It's like some people think I can't have PCOS if I don't struggle with my weight! I mean, I have the excess hair and no periods and insulin resistance, but just because I don't have extra weight doesn't mean that my opinion doesn't matter or that I'm not worried about my health! I'm glad I've been spared from the weight difficulties but that doesn't erase everything else. I imagine that those women who had no trouble getting pregnant get the same kind of discrimination around here.

stacey88- have you talked to your dr? your treatment would vary depending on a lot of things - your symptoms, if you're TTC, etc.

Not upset by your rant at all but i wanted to point out to you that weight loss DOES NOT ALWAYS lessen PCOS symptoms. My symptoms are the same now as they were when I was 60 pounds lighter and 40 pounds heavier then I am right now. There are those of us overweight cysters who do not get regular periods or less severe symptoms if we lose weight.

Just thought you should know that.

Nantucket - I don't believe anyone said that losing weight was ALWAYS the cure for obese PCOS.
Standard first practice dictates that losing weight and obtaining normal blood sugar levels is the standard treatment for women who are obese with PCOS.
Non-obese PCOS women do not have this option, and I believe that's all that is being said here. Our first treatment option usually involves drug therapy, which i can see by your profile, you know is not all too pleasant. Good luck on Baby number 4!
