Default Iced Tea

Hey, all...Since I (sort of) started the IR diet the first thing I did was go cold turkey on soda and juice. That's really good and it's helped me alot, but the downside that there's not much to drink at home. So my mom got the brilliant idea to make our own iced tea. Here's what we do:

We have a bunch of big old Gatorade glass bottles (any big glass juice bottles will work), so we fill the bottles with water and put three or four tea bags under the lid, so the lid holds them in place. Then we put the bottles in the sun for a day, and then take them in when the tea's all steeped, and we have iced tea! It goes really fast in our house, especially in summer.

My personal faves are Stash peppermint tea, and Apple Cinnamon and Bengal Spice from Celestial Seasonings. They're strong-flavored but taste a little sweet, so you only have to sweeten it a little bit or not at all (I don't, it helps me kick the sugar habit).

On a side note, I've read that green tea can help to some degree with combatting the effects of testosterone in the system.

To me, it doesn't taste as good as black tea or the flavored ones, but with a little splenda, it hits the spot.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that, green tea is good too but it needs a little sweetening...Tazo makes Green Ginger that's a little sweeter because it has pear in it, but we haven't tried that yet because it's a little more expensive brand.

Also, remember to put the tea in the fridge when you bring it in...otherwise you'll have lukewarm tea.

green tea is really good for you. have you tried adding a little lemon to it? i try not to drink too much tea, because for every glass you have to drink an extra glass of water. i just stick to water now, unless dh wants tea. of course water with a little lemon is great too.

my fav sun tea is mint.

Being an ice tea girl, I have to put my 2 cents in. As long as tea isn't caffenated it won't be dehydrating. Also, tea has certain properties in it that kill cancer cells. Lastly, tea tastes great!!!!!

I LOVE TEA!!!

you must drink decaf tea? or herb tea, which really isn't tea. tea is a confusing subject.

It's not that you must drink decaf tea, it's just that caffeine dehydrates you so it kinda defeats the purpose of the iced tea. And by the way I really do consider herbal tea to be tea, it's the only kind of tea I drink. But whatever...everybody's entitled to their own opinion, right?

I wasn't trying to affend anyone by saying that herbal teas are not tea, I was just stating a fact. I and my dh are tea nuts. I have just decided to not drink it anymore, except for special occassions or in place of coffee (because even regular tea has way less caffeine than coffee does). And yes, we are entitled to our own opinions. Opinions are like a$$es, everyone has one, and some of them stink. See, if I had really wanted to be a butt, I would have told everyone how to steep their tea as well as the different types and when they mean. Such as what green tea really is, and Orange Pekoe (which by the way has no orange in it, but is the grade or size of the tea leaves). But so you all know... Tea is made from the leaves of a tea-shrub. Herb tea is an infusion of various herbs, flowers and spices. Just a little facts, don't take this as an attack, because that is not what it is.

Babybokal,

Have you tried Crystal Light for a change of pace? I love the peach tea.

Good luck in your tea adventure!

Sorry, anglewormm, no offense taken. That's neat, I didn't know anything about the distinction b/w herbal tea and tea leaves. See, you learn something new every day...

Just trying to let y'all know that I'm weird, I hate caffeine. It gives me headaches and does nothing for my perpetual sleepiness. I guess I enjoy herbal tea because it tastes substantive but I know there's absolutely nothing besides water and spices in it...YAY!

About Crystal Light...I don't know if there's anyone else here like me, but I cannot stand any form of artificial sweetener. I don't know why, I must be oversensitive. Besides, I like making my own...I know exactly what goes in it.

OK, this post seemed to turn into an explanation of my personal tea-drinking preferences. Back to the green-tea experimentation...(Wow that sounded weird.) If any of y'all have any more success with experiments of this kind, let us know!!!!!
