Just sitting here after reading an article about a fatal accident involving someone who's sugar level probably went too low and started thinking. Do any of you have any medical alert bracelets? I know people with Type I usually get them, but what about people with type II??

I have PCOS and Type 2 diabetes. I was told by my diabetic dr that I need to wear a medical alert id braclet or necklace at all times. I take 1000mg of metformin 2 times a day. It's also posted on the bottle of metformin that I need to wear medical alert id. Hope this helps.

Do you wear it for the Type II or for the metformin?

Should you wear one If you are taking Met for hypoglycemia and Insulin Resistance? I just started taking it last week, and my bottle also stated to wear an Id.

It probably says it on the Metformin bottle incase you need a test done where a dye is used, as the dyes react with the met and can form crystals or something like that in the kidneys.

Metformin itself won't give you a hypo so there wouldn't be any point wearing an medicalert bracelet for that, as Metformin doesn't lower blood sugar or kick the pancreas into producing more insulin. All it does is make the receptors in your body more sensitive to the insulin you have.

I am type 2, but have only worn a medicalert bracelet as I am on Insulin (as well as Metformin), and a variety of other drugs and medical conditions.

I'm type II on Lantus, but you should wear an ID bracelet to let them know your diabetic...and also that YOUR on Met, because if your taking met and they give you insulin it could be pretty dangerous or visa versa.

My bracelt says I'm hypothyroid, Type II diabetic on Insulin

you can find the bracelts at www.laurenshope.com

Nothing dangerous about met and insulin together, I have been on the combination for 3 years now. I have tried just being on insulin, but I need to have the Met so that my receptors can pick up the insulin I inject otherwise my insulin doseage just goes up higher and higher to try and control my sugars. Many diabetics take met and insulin.

I was told that if someone was on Met. and was given insulin that if they had taken their share of met for the day that insulin could bottom them out because the paramedics didn't know what was taken and gave them insulin. Not sure if I even sound right here.Haha

I'm on Insulin and avandia myself.

you should keep a list of all your meds, and "conditions" on you at all times, also if you have a DOPA or a Living Will keep that on you at all times, I work in an ER and you wouldnt belive how many ppl who have never been here, forget these things, they are very important, and if you forget to tell the dr something it can be life threating, you never know what is going to happen, and that one thing can be peice of the puzzle that the dr needs to be able to treat you 100% correctly!

I wear one... I do have other conditions too, but the main reason I got it was diabetes. OF course by the time they did my paperwork, I was also diabetic and pregnant.... and then on insulin.

And I know several people on insulin and met/glucophage.

Afternoon all

I'm also type 2 diabetic, i take 2000mg metformin plus two shots of insulin every day and it is working wonders for me. I've been on that combo since June last year.

I don't have an id braclet/necklace yet, i need to find somewhere in the UK to order one from.

Take care

Lin
