Smile If I don't want to be on BC.. then what?

Hi!

I'm a newbie cyster and still learning about all this stuff. I was recently put back on BC to regulate my periods, but I am not sure I want to stay on BC. My husband and I are not TTC, so what are my options. Can I go on a prescription that will help regulate my periods that is not birth control? And are there any crazy side effects to it? Thanks for any help you can give me!!

You can start taking Metformin (prescription drug) to regulate your cycles, but it has side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. For some of us the side effects are really bad, but others have none ...
Or you can try Vitex. It is a slow working herb, so you need to take it for a longer period of time to see some improvement in your cycles.
I tried both. Met made me sick, but it helped me conceive our daughter.
After I gave birth, I tried Vitex. I loved it because it had no side effects and eventually it helped me to ovulate (I went from 0 ovulation to 2 ovulation during the 6-7 month I was taking it).

I've read an article here saying that birth control pills will actually make the PCOS worse in the long run. Read some of the stickies here about Metformin (glucophage) and BCPs.
