So it's been awhile since I've been on here. Honestly, I've just had a rought time-- I'm having a hard time taking both doses of Met and I guess you could say that I went through a bit of a denial stage. If I didn't come on here and didn't take both does (one dose was fine but the second one makes me horribly ill) then I don't have to think about it. Well, trying to get over that and take this thing head on! A couple questions:
Anyone have any tricks to remembering to take both doses; and even better, making yourself take both does when you know it may make you fell sick?
Second, I've read in many different articles that this is inherited-"that if your mother or sister has it, then most likley you may have it." Well, my Mom doesn't have it and I don't have any sisters, so where did I get it? My dad isn't insulin resistant, but he has been told that he needs to be careful of how many simple carbs he eats so he doesn't develop diabetes. Is there where I got it from?
Thanks for your help!

I have always wondered the same. My grandmother's sister never had children and she loved children so I sometimes wonder if she had PCOS. I am not sure if it is inherited but I had been worried that if i had a daughter that she would have to deal with the same thing I have had to deal with. Luckly I'm having a boy.

I don't have any immediate family members with PCOS either, so I don't know where I "got it from" too. However, I suspect that some of my great aunts and a cousin of mine could have had it, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
As for the Met, I take two doses per day, too. What helps me to remember taking them is to take them with my meals: one at breakfast and one at dinner. I've also found that taking them with my meals have really reduced the side effects I have on them.
I agree with PP. I also take mine with meals (one at breakfast and one with dinner) and that helps a lot. When I first started Met it really made me sick, but now I don't have any s/e with it at all (unless I drink more than one glass of wine). I actually feel a lot better since I started the met and it's helped me loose almost 40 pounds since August.
I also don't have any family members with PCOS so I have no clue where I got it from.

My mom doesn't have it either and neither did her mother (my grandmother), but my grandmother also had 8 sisters of which half of them never had kids. In the older days women didn't talk about problems like this so there's a good chance these great aunt's of mine did in fact have pcos type problems which is why they never had children (they were married too). Now I'm finding from an older sister that I haven't really spoken to much in the past 7 years that she too has some problems with Fibroids.
Maybe it's not just a direct mother-daughter relationship thing and can stem from any strand of DNA in the family that gets passed down or skips generations????

Mine is passed down through my father. He developed type 2 diabetes later in life, and his body turned his testosterone into estrogen-- which killed him in the form of estrogen positive breast cancer. I can squarely point the finger at him. Take a look into your dad's family, there may be aunts that had it but were never diagnosed.

I cant find anyone with it either in my family but I think mine was caused be 1)a drug my mom took for endometriosis immediately before I was conceived (the dr told her if she wasnt off it long enough before a baby, if her baby was a girl it might have more hair and stuff) and 2)POOR diet as a child. My mom raised me on mr.noodles.
