Question If not PCOS...WHAT THEN??????????

Hello everyone.......
Despite my last horrid experieince at the RE, I saw a link for a Gyn in my area that deals with PCOS, mostly at a fertility level, and decided to go see them. I called first and asked if they treated women who are NOT infertile and dont have skipped periods and they said "YES". I went last week and saw a nurse, she took my history, copied my last lab results, from last fall, and wanted to get newer labs, and a few that were never taken, like total and free testosterone.

She just called and said my labs were "inconculsive", and I prob dont have PCOS. The Dr at the practice still wants to do a sonohystogram, to look for fibroids/polyps, and look at my ovaries. If I dont have PCOS, what else could it be with these symptoms:

insulin resistance, 2hr postprandial insulin= 85
hirsuite
overweight/inability to lose/maintain loses
fatigue
PMS
dark skin patches in groin, under breasts
acne
thinning hair
depression
FSH/
LH ratio is 3 to 1, 28 to 9
heavy mentrual periods, with pain
edema, pitting at times

I cant think of anything else right now, but I plan on picking up a copy of my new labs today before I go to work.

But, offhand, does anyone have any idea what else could cause me these symptoms, excluding PCOS??? Thyroid probs?

Any input/ideas wopuld be great help....

Hmmm, the LH/FSH ratio looks like PCOS. Also, I *think* that the testosterone could be slightly elevated for a woman, but I could be wrong.

Have they checked you for Cushing's Disease? If not, this needs to be done for sure.

Good luck!

Are you any any sort of bcp's or any other meds? Certian meds can mess up test results.

I remember when I first was told that I had pcos, I didn't have any cysts on my ovaries but they were larger than they should have been which is consistent for pcos. I was also told that pcos was more of a clinical diagnoisis then a true test diagnosis. But that was a few years ago and I know a lot more research has been done and since then I have more and more tests the even more confirm the pcos.

I'd try to seek a second opinion. Just my two cents
