if pcos is not treated what exactly could happen?!
hey so i was diagnosed a couple months ago by my gyno, and he right away put me on the pill to help regulate me...he also said that the pill would help because if left untreated the cysts on my ovaries could burst, or one of the ovaries could twist, ect.
My dilemma is that i just went yesterday to an endocronologist, who just put me on pain medication for my pelvic pain and did nothing else for the actual ovaries. i was wondering if i should talk to him again about it or just trust him that he knows what he is doing.
im nervous because he gave me some big speach about how i shouldnt worry about it and ill be fine to have kids and blah blah blah.
he told me this story about how pcos is like blue and brown eyes. if a blue eyed person were to be born in africa (where everyone has brown eyes) they would be considered odd and weird, so PCOS is considered a syndrome here but is actually a normal thing in other parts of the world, and in those other parts of the world the women dont do anythign for it and are fine, so i should be fine too. its just because it is so much rarer here that people worry about it and think their lives are over.
so pretty much im freaking out, and dont know if i should find somebody else to help me or what, because i keep reading articles about medformin and medications and stuff, but i dont really have any symptoms aside from the polycystic ovaries and a LITTLE bit of weight gain.
if i dont do anything and just stay on the pain meds what could happen?
P.S. sorry for the long note!
ohh also the endocronologist took me off the pill, because he said i didnt need it, he said i probably just started getting irregular periods because something probably stressed me out. so i am solely on the pain meds now.
Woah, woah...your doc should not have taken you off the pill. So long story short I didn't have a period for amost 5 years before I found a doc that would give me what I needed. If you don't shed your uterine lining, you are more likely to get endometriosis, cancer or the uterus, etc. Plus, if you would like to have a baby some day it would be best to keep your hormones as regular as possible. My RE told me when I started TTC that had I of had a better treatment course in the past I might not have problems TTC now. I think you should try to see another endo specialist that maybe knows more about PCOS. Although it might be common, it is not "normal" , which is why it is a syndrome.

That doctor is a quack. I can tell you there are things that go wrong when not treated. Your cycles can get longer. Alot of us don't ovulate. No more periods. You can gain weight which puts you at all kinds of risks. You are at higher risk of developing nasty things like heart disease and diabetes. Mine got out of control over the last year. My weight shot up 20 pounds in 4 months and my cholesterol and blood pressure went right with it. Its a big deal. It is not normal. And it WILL effect your life. I don't know where he thinks he's learned this but I'd be finding a new doc in a heartbeat and I'd have told that one exactly where he could put his theories on my way out the door.

Omg you have GOT to find a new doctor.
Even if he thinks you don't have pcos, or that people can be totally fine with it, it's good to regulate your period anyways. For reasons mentioned. [cancer and whatnot]
Maybe try and find a female doctor? No guy is ever going to understand the hell of this syndrome. =/
