Default If you loose weight on the IR diet will your thyroid improve?

I have been trying to get some info about this. Someone told me that if you follow the Insulin Resistance Diet and loose weight that it will take care of your thyroid problem. I have never heard of this . Has anyone else had this happen to them?
Thanks

I haven't heard of that, but what kind of thyroid problem specifically? I've been trying to find out if theres a connection between IR and hypothyroid or thyroid nodules.

I don't know about the loosing weight helping the thyroid issue. But I am reading Healing Syndrom O and it I can't remember the exact line but it did talk about that the IR could make the thyroid stop functioning correctly. I remember reading it and then again to my husband and we thought about how the PCOS could have caused the thyroid issue - we have been thinking it was reversed. I am starting to realize just how big of a role insulin plays in our bodies. Amazing if you ask me!

I am secure in the thought that there are connections with PCOS, IR and Thyroid disorders. While I am not a doctor, I cannot image how loosing weight will help you make or reduce the amount of thyroid hormone your body is producing.

Michelle, I really believe there is a connection too. I asked my endo and he said only if it's an autoimmune disease like hashi, where the body attacks iteslf and that's the reason those women with pcos have ovarian cysts.

But why are there so many of us cysters who have thyroid issues ulrelated to hashi? There has to be a connection. I suppose all I can do is wait and see, but I wonder if once I get the weight off, my pcos and IR settles, my thyroid nodule would go away as my ovarian cysts do?

Bec -

Without a doubt there is a connection with thyroid and PCOS. Not everyone that gets hypothyroid suffer from Hashi. I think you are more likely to get Hashi if you have a family history of autoimmune diseases which I do. I also read that there is a connection between Hashi and Thyroid Cancer.

I have always had thyroid. The whole IR and PCOS is new to me. I am a thin cyster and it took me 3 years to get diagnosed. I just stopped getting my period one day and it never returned. I had no problem getting pregnant with my son. I wish I could figure out what could make this all better for me!?!?!

Take care of those nodules - get them checked often!

Sometimes women who are overweight have a dysfunctional thyroid, and when they lose weight, sometimes it is corrected. Thyroid hormone controls and affects so much in the body, like metabolism and temperature control. And so does insulin. It's a vicious cycle!

There is a loose connection b/t hashi's and thyroid cancer. There are many people who have thyca who didn't have hashi's...but since thyca is one of the cancers that usually isn't fatal (there are 2 very treatable forms of thyca) that research is decades down the road.
