Since there seems to be much ignorence(lack of knowledge) from un-named countries, I thought I would ask...
What is your least favorite, untrue stereotype that you have heard about Canada?
It still gets me when people (usually Americans) make cracks about the Canadian dollar.
Me: "Yeah, it was about $150."
Them: "CANADIAN! That's like $3 here."
Not so much anymore, eh?
And while not a stereotype, the lack of geographic knowledge kills me, too. I don't expect every non-Canadian (or even every Canadian!) to know where places like Smooth Rock Falls or Estevan are, but "I'm from Vancouver" should not be met with "I have a friend in Montreal. Maybe you know her?"

I could go on forever. Not so much stereotypes, as just...challenging.
I worked at Butchart Gardens in high school and we would constantly get asked where the bridge to Vancouver was. Ummm...no bridge. A few even told me that I was wrong, because they had come over to the island on it! Yikes.
My sister is a manager at Butchart's and always gets asked if the prices are in American or Canadian. Drives her nuts!

Wow!
How come you didn't tell me about that bridge last time I came out to the island.

Aww, Butchart! I grew up on the Island and went to high school just north of Victoria. I miss it.
I was on the Clipper once and heard someone ask a ferry worker where they could change their money into "B.C. money." Hmm. Not "Canadian" but "B.C." money.

I'll never forget the time when I was visiting Niagara Falls with my family in the middle of July and I saw Americans driving across the bridge with skis on top of their car!
Amen! I remember watching Jeopardy a couple of years ago. The answer was something about what Canada's capital city was. The guy answered with "Alberta".
I live very close to the border at Detroit... you wouldn't believe the americans I have encountered.
Oh, and I work in a call centre taking only american calls.
I seriously wanna scream whenever someone asks if its 'cold up there'. Especially when they are from Maine or Vermont.
I try to explain that I am lower south than they are, and they get very confused by this
I've seen the people drive over asking where's the snow with thier skies on top... as if something happens over the detroit river that makes ontario somehow colder
i have more pet peeves about americans on my phone calls. seriously, if i have one more person tell me to 'hold up' instead of 'hold on' i will pull out all my hair. if its a 5 year old telling me to 'hold up' .. i'll also scream at the top of my lungs.
*feels a vent comming on and tries to control herself*

Ok I don't think I have anything to add, you've all named the good ones! I do want to say: THANKS FOR THE LAUGHS! (especially the bridge to Van and the Ski's in NF) I really needed a good laugh today ladies.
Cheers to Canada!

One of the all-time best books is "How to Be a Canadian: Even If You Already Are One" by comedy writers Will Ferguson and Ian Ferguson. I give it to every American, Australian and Brit I meet who comes to Canada to work in my industry. It is a good primer for them. It has a donut on the cover, so I wrap it up with a Tim Horton's donut in a little plastic display case. The book is a little out of date on the political stuff, but the rest is timeless.
Yes, we apparently manufacturer "cold fronts" and then send them south, that's what we do. That, and "socialized" medicine, as if it is a bad word.
