I was 15 when i was diagnosed. (I'm 18 now!) There was an article in a newspaper on it.. Saying Victoria Beckham had PCOS,.. Read the syptoms & thought hey thats me lol.., went to the doctors..And the rest is history! Maybe it is lucky to be diagnosed early..
Diagnosed a few months ago.....I went to numerous doctors trying to find out the problem to my cronic depression and finally one linked it to PCOS and then I realized I had most of the symptoms once I did my reasearch on it.....overwieght,acne, thin hair ect.
it was a few moths ago, feb actually so i was 16.
but i was tested when i was 15, and the doc said i didnt have it, how he missed it i have no idea! he must have been blind, i even suggested it and demanded the test! so it wasent until almost 12 moths latter until i found a dif doctor that sumtin got done about it!
and for me its been a tough time ever sinse
I'm 35 and just found out on May 9 of this year. I've been on bcp for most of my adult life, so that masked most of my symptoms. I've always been somewhat heavy, but the pill kept most of the other hormones in check. When I went off the pill ttc, I had like 6 periods in two years and gained massive amounts of weight. My face exploded into a new solar system abd I became a beared woman in the circus. I did some reading on infertility, and I KNEW I had PCOS when I read about it. My new, wonderful doc agreed. Now on met, cycles have returned!
I only wish I had known when I was 17. Of course, who knows if I even would have taken it seriously at that age. And hey, that ws 1987! I feel sooooooo old...
the idea was first suggested to me when i was 13. i went to the doc with extremly heavy periods (like a maxi tampon every half hour heavy!!!) and they were so painful and heavy that i could not go anywhere. they were also very irregular and i was overweight and had bad acne. i was put on the pill and stayed on it for three years after and went off it at the end of last year and havent had a period since. last year (at 16) i had an internal ultrasound which found multiple cysts on the ovaries which points towards PCOS, but i have not had a blood test to diganose it, as i am afraid of them, like i would prefer a strange doc putting a stick up inside me and looking around than having a blood test (major childhood trauma behind the blood test phobia). i also gained 70kg within two years. i recently went to a specialist to try and get treatment but he was absolutly useless just like the docs. when the doc told me i had PCOS she actually got out a book just to tell me a breif definition of what it was. i felt so let down when i went to the gyno and he wouldnt even take me seriously. other than going back on the pill (which i am tired of doing) and loosing like the body weight of an entire person i have been given no other options. which annoys me. i know that its important to loose weight and god knows ive been trying since i was eight years old, but when i explained to him that even when i was like a size 12 i still had irregular and painful periods he still didnt take me seriously.
what kind of treatments are the other teen girls on here? did anyone else have similar probs with their doc?
