Smile Im finally getting things sorted.

I saw my diabetic consultant today. (usual checkup)

I explained to him that i felt so tired all the time and that although i was on metformin, 2000mg daily, my sugars were still running high (around 12/13 and higher)and that i was vomiting alot.
He told me that the metformin was no longer enough for me and that i had to go onto insulin - the 'pen' and also take metformin 850mg twice a day. Im pleased that i will finally feel more healthy and hopefully get more energy. (i work 13.5 hour shifts in security, difficult when all you wanna do is sleep)

This was the first time i had seen 'this' consultant, and he was brilliant, he listened to what i had to say, and didnt give me any flannel, he explained about metformin and pregnancy too, met is ok, but as soon as i find out im pregnant i have to come of them, there is alot more control over when using insulin.

It was nice to come out of there having my questions answered.

Excellent! It is always much more comforting when you have a doctor that you trust and seems to know what they are doing!

I'm glad things are working out for you. How does the pen work? I've heard of it, but never heard how it works....

The 'pen' has insulin cartridges in them, you just push on a little needle and dial the amount of units that you need. Use it like a dart in the area of skin you want e.g leg, push the top of the pen and in goes the insulin, wait 5 seconds to make sure it is all in and take the needle out.

The needle is so small and fine, its alot less daunting to use than the syringes.

Does it hurt at all? That is the one thing I can't stand about those stupid needles is that sometimes it hurts like crazy! Also, where can you give yourself the pen shot?

It doesnt hurt atall!!

The needle is so small and fine, you just dont feel it.
The only problem i had was getting the prescription for them - i tried five chemists!!

You can take in same places as you can with the normal syringe - top of the leg, top of the arm, stomach.

These 'pens' are brilliant!!
