I am 22 years old this month and i ahve been diagnosed with pcos since i was 18. I have only just discovered this site which is great coz it's comforting to knw that other people have this disorder too, because none of my friends or family do!
Since my first period when i was 13, it had always been irregular so no wonder i have this! I really hate myself for this. The symptoma are horrible! I have so much hair and since im asian from Malaysia, my hair is dark, thick and course! But since taking the BCP (diane) most of my hair is gone but i still have some hair especially compared to all my friends! Its embarassing, i have to wax my upper lip and legs though. Anyway i used to have a lot of acne, they looked like heat rashes but now since taking diane i have none at all and in fact everyone tells me my skin is flawless. Lucky me. But i still get dandruff at times. And my tummy is huge! I hate it!! I heard most ppl with pcos are obese, but im ok but im not thin. Im 54kg but im short though, im only 5ft1. I should lose more weight but u havnt had time to exercise and the worse thing is people with pcos take agess to lose weight. It is so unfair! And we cant even eat carbohydrates and that is the best food. Can anyone tell me what type of food we can eat which is good for us? Also, i have those black patches, i had them since i was a little girl, it looks disgusting especially the ones on my tighs and my neck has this line or so. I regret my childhood because nobody told me not to eat all those bad food like soft drinks, fast food, chocolates etc, i didnt know anything coz i was just a child and nobody stopped me! My dad has diabetes but its being controlled and both his paretns had diabetes too. So i know that is the reason i have pcos!! And i seriously do not want to have diabtes when im older, so im trying not to get stressed about anything coz stress will affect my health in future. I get stressed a lot though *sigh* It is depressing to have pcos and since im still studying and my studies are really important to me, pcos affects me like having lack of concenteration and i get migraines often. I also have a lot of pelvic pains at time but since taking diane it has lessen. I really wish my pcos will go away. Has anyone heard of any other methods??
Welcome anala! It's hard when no one around you can relate to PCOS. I'm very glad that you have found SC, you'll meet so many ladies here who understand! Even if results are not immidiate, keep working out because it can improve symptoms. There are some pretty good books on PCOS that talk about how to eat better. There is a thread about that, a good place to start.
Welcome to SC! Check out the Metformin board. Many cysters have Insulin Resistance and take Metformin to keep from getting diabetes. It can also help other symptoms.
Check the Weight Mgt. board on different diets that have worked for cysters. I'm on a modified low-carb diet which is low in processed carbs, soy, caffeine, rice and potatoes. I eat a lot of fruit, dairy, veggies, meat and nuts.

Thanks for the info..it really helps..do u know if i have to ask my doctor for metformin? because my dr never perscribed it to me or asked me to take it..maybe i should see another dr esp. since im living in london now..its hard not to eat carbs..they r the best food..i really love bread, pasta, cakes, desserts, chocolates
In the US it is by prescription only, and my doc gave Metformin to me when I tested positive for insulin resistance. Some docs aren't as willing to prescribe it, others are.
There are lower carb versions of most breads and such. I eat sugar free chocolates and sugar free icecream, but I don't know if that is available in your area. It is a whole new way of eating, but it feels so good when you start loosing and realize the diet is working best with your body
my doc gave me met, even though i don't show insulin resistance, but because she thinks it's a good way to treat the pcos, i can't take bcp because everyone i've taken, has made me sick in someway tried yasmin, and otho-tri-cyclen (low) and yaz. as well as depo and the patch. so they just decided not to try anymore, and plus the fact we are ttcing.
