Wink Im New!

Hello. Im new here. It's so nice to find a place where others understand you and can empathize. Thanks for all the postings. They help me as I try to sort out everything physically and emotionally. Here's my story...

Im 20 and I was just DX in October 07 with PCOS. Since I got my first period at thirteen I never had a reg period. My Drs kept telling me I was fine, it was normal for some women to have irregular periods. Then around 17 came the weight gain. I gained about 20 lbs in 6 weeks. Fortunately it stopped after 20 lbs, but after 3 years of trying to get it off, I fianlly gave up and figured this was what my body was comfortable with, even though I was not. Then the facial hair started growing. (Which I am treating now with Laser Hair Removal.) My BFF at the time nicknamed me "Georgia Peach" from the peachfuzz which of course got thicker, courser... (and I don't think that is the nicest nickname, but anyways...) Then the acne this past summer started. I've never had to deal with acne before, esp. on my chest. Then I started passing tissue, which just ended up being excess uterine lining, but not knowing, of course, I immediately went to my Dr. As she once again dissmissed my concerns and had the attitude that I was too young for anything to be wrong, I knew I needed to change DRs. I went to another, wonderful Dr who ran tests, did ultrasounds and within 2 months I got my DX of PCOS. My newest battle is my hair is balding. This is upsetting, but is just another thing I'll have to cope with and see what options there are to treat it.

Right now I am taking Levora and Spironolatone for irregular preiods and my facial hair, along with laser hair removal. My goal is to walk 10 miles a week (which, yay for me, I've been successful at for a month) and I eat pretty healthy.

As I am new to researching and treating my PCOS I am wondering about Met. I am not IR nor obese, but can see how my body could be going in that direction, besides the fact diabetes runs in my family. What have your experiences been with it?

HI I am new too. I still dont even know how to make fancy fonts and designs-but whatever! I have PCOS and finally getting help. I got the Rx for met but havent filled it yet. I am overweight-but not horrific in my opinion, but definitely need help-my stomach is all fat, I have to suck it in all the time! I want to be pregnant-not look pregnant! ha

I have some facial hair-on my chin-i shave it every morning with my bf's awesome razor. he doesnt even notice it-but I worry about it getting worse. I dont take anything for it-in fact I dont want to even take the met-I hate using medications but I think I will try it. If it helps with the fact I cant lose weight-and maybe get me pregnant-than I will go for it. Maybe we can talk again-but I dont know how to find someone on here yet! Jen

Thanks Jen. Nice to know I'm not the only one who has the gut issue. My pants flood my butt in order to fit my waistline. Oh well... I even wear one of those excercising band things around my stomach while at work, I can get away with it, I wear scrubs. I don't know why I do that, but I figure, hey, can't hurt. Anyways... Hope the Met works for ya. Im still working with my DRs to see if its good idea for me to try it.

Hello, nice to meet you. I'm glad you switched doctors. Evidently this is a hard disease to diagnose but sounds like your other doctor just didn't want to believe anything was going on at all with you. Since I just had surgery that diagnosed my PCOS, I have yet to start any meds, but I gained 10 pounds in two weeks with eating right and running and the hair growth on my face and belly just shut me down from the beach the past few years. I had no clue what it was. Do those meds help your symptoms? I'm doing a lot of reading on this site since there is loads of great information, but hearing actual stories seems to give me more hope.

Welcome reignstayr. Well the levora is just for regulating my periods. Ive been on different BCPs for the past five years, so I've been regular for that long. And I just started the Spironolatone a month ago and am treating my facial hair problem with laser too. I still live at home, so I can afford it. I realize its not an option financially for some. I am happy with the results I am seeing already. I am doing some more tests still to see if I need to go on Met, but I have heard a lot of good things about it, so I open to giving it a try.

Well at least you have a few positives going for you dear. You're lucky not to have the weight battle issues to deal with. I have a long ways to go for that one...lol. Diabetes def. runs in my family, however docs keep saying I'm fine in that department despite my sugar dropping from time to time. However, he did say I was borderline high on the cholestorol. As for the facial hair better known as : hirsutism, I've suffered that from age 12 to now with no delay in it's growth. I've watched it grow from a few smooth upper lip hairs to a full grown beard, side burns, and goatee to match. Also have the chest hairs surrounding the nipples, the skin tags, oily skin, thinning hair (the most detrimental to a woman) and the embarassing cystic acne near the chin line which comes in large clusters and are painful sebaceous cysts. Should you decide to do a little research, that's the names of them. Sebaceous cysts and/or cystic acne.
