Default Im new so..........

New to this site! Diagnised when i was 16, so ten years ago. Have had one chemical pregnancy in june of 08. M/c at 7 weeks in oct 09. Trying to loose weight, since they say that is the "miracle" to curing pcos. Honestly, I don't think the doctors have the slightest idea how to deal with pcos!! Just want to see how this all worked

I don't think anyone that knows what they are talking about will say that losing weight is the miracle cure for PCOS. Anyone that knows about it will tell you that losing weight is much harder for women with pcos. A lot of us even with a "good" diet and regular exercise are overweight. Most PCOS women need a specialized diet that deals with glucose more then fat. Sure, losing weight is an important part of being healthy but for most of us it can't be done the traditional way.

You need to find a Dr. that knows what he's talking about. If they're telling you to "Lose weight and you'll be cured" you need to find someone else. I got lucky when I was diagnosed years ago that my dr was on the leading edge of PCOS. Look around until you find someone that can put you on the right diet/exercise program for someone with pcos. That will supplement it with Medication if they think it's needed. (I'm pretty sure most do) and will work with you on getting your glucose tolerance levels where they need to be. That will "cure" the pcos.

Good luck.

I was diagnosed with pcos about 10 yrs ago as well (when I was 18). The doctors that I have seen pretty much just told me to keep taking bc to control the cysts and when i was ready to get pregnant we'll deal with it then. Well I finally found a good doctor and he put me on glucophage to control my insulin levels but I ended up gettin pregnant (followed by a miscarriage 3 months later). I changed doctors yet again due to ins. issues and continued taking bc. Well now that I'm married and ready to have children my doctor took me off the bc and told me to just "wait it out" and hopefully my age won't work against me. I realized I needed a doctor who actually cared and wanted to help. I am now seeing a doctor who on my first visit asked me MANY questions and actually wants to help me. He had a LOT of blood tests ran and I have a full abdominal ultrasound scheduled this week. He said we have to start with any other medical problems before I try to get pregnant and go from there. I think thats a HUGE factor w/ dealing with pcos and trying to concieve. Find yourself a doctor who cares enough to do something more than a "quick fix".
