Hi my name is lisa im 27 and i have been married for 2 years ..when i met my husband he told me that he a condition that cause his body not to produce sperm its a purtuity thyroid condition and that his chances of having kids was pretty much not going to happen..well then i come along and as far as i know i was perfectly healthy..other than the weight gain... well we decide to start trying to have a baby..well we went to the doctor and had a bunch of test done of me and the doctor looked at me and said what is your history... well when i got my period i was in the 5 grade , gained alot of wieght right after, at the age of 20 had my gallbladder removed, have adult acne, alot of weight in the mid section, total irregular periods where i bleed for three months straight, painful periods. he looked at me and said you seem like a perfect case of PCOS. he told me that he wanted to do an ultrasound.. to see if there are any cyst ..well the test came back negative that didn't see any .. that maybe it was something different.. well we went to another doctor to get a second opion... well the new doctor told me the same thing that maybe i had PCOS.. so she did blood work and did another test where they go in to my uterus and pinch it or something like that well the blood test came back and it said that i was insulin resistant and that i had pcos..they put me on Metformin at 500mg a day for one week, then up it to 2 pills the next week, well the next week i up it and i became vilently ill so they took me off it .. and put me on Avandia so far i havent had any side effects .. my question is if im IR and i have all the other classic signs of it why couldn't they see any cyst in my ovaries ???? and thanks for all the help and info feel free to email me or message me

Not all women with PCOS have cysts on their ovaries, I didn't but I have all the other symptoms! If you keep reading all the informational stuff you'll find out tons of info!
A vaginal ultrasound also may be performed to check for multiple follicle cysts in your ovaries. This test is most commonly performed by fertility specialists and is less commonly done by general obstetricians and gynecologists. A probe is inserted in the vagina and the picture is shown on a screen beside the bed. A PCOS diagnosis cannot be made entirely on the basis of the ultrasound alone since not all women with PCOS have cysts.
This may seem contradictory. Why call it polycystic ovary syndrome when not all women have cysts? It is because PCOS was identified (originally as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome) many years ago based on the presence of cysts in the first known patients. Conversely, not all women with cysts have PCOS. The presence of cystic ovaries does not always mean that you have the syndrome.
If PCOS is suspected, your physician may recommend an extensive check of your endocrine system. (source: Medem.com)

Welcome and good luck, I hope you're able to conceive!
Not having the cysts may actually help you there, as it could mean you're more likely to be ovulating properly.
