Thanks for the pictures.. it's easier to explain to my family with pictures. I read where you said you had ovarian drilling. Can you please answer these questions I have if you don't mind.
1. Did it hurt? My dr. want to do it and he said I would be outpatient and if I have it on Thursday I could go to work on Monday.
2. Did it work? Did you notice a difference?
My endo said it would not work and my gyn said it could.
I am so glad you posted these pics. When I had my 1st scan many many months ago, the nurse (who I am guessing must have been a trainee / didn't know what she was looking for) actually said to me "oh - you're ovaries are fine. I can see loads of eggs all clustered around". Hmm.
Wow! That's really nasty... does anyone know what is in those cysts? Is it like a pimple? (Sorry that's gross, I'm new and I just don't understand what exactly is going on).
What are ovarian cysts?
An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac, similar to a blister, that forms in an ovary. Ovarian cysts are the most common ovarian growths in women of childbearing age, 20 to 35 years old. They are seen more frequently in overweight women.1
All women develop small ovarian cysts during the menstrual cycle, when an egg matures in a small sac (follicle) on the surface of the ovary. Normally the egg is released from the sac (ovulation), and the sac dissolves. If the egg isn't released, or the sac doesn't dissolve, an ovarian cyst may form.
Less commonly, ovarian cysts may develop after treatment with certain infertility medications, or when another disease, such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is present.
NORMAL-A normal, healthy ovary with the fallopian tube on the right side.

POLYCYSTIC-You can see the numerous cysts under the the ovary, which is covered with a hard, white shell.

Okay, I guess I don't have to recant... that is nasty!!!
Rasburry, what is the white shell? Is it calcified or what? Thanks for the pictures.
Strawberry
I wasn't sure of what the hard white shell was either so I decided to look into this matter more.
Here is what I found:
PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) gets its name from the many cysts that form in the ovaries. A normal ovary is soft and pink whereas a PCOS ovary has a hard, pearly, white shell around it.
And here is a good link with more photos, explanations and what an ovary looks like after it's been drilled.....

Ew ew ew ew ewww! Thanks for the info, but I wish I didn't know what I know now... I'm very squemish about stuff like that! I wonder if they all look like that... I was told by my doctor my ovaries weren't swollen so maybe mine aren't like that... Yuck!
Thanks for the link, though... I had no idea!
The OTHER berry cyster
Hi,
Those pix were awesome. I never saw an ovary up close like that. They are kinda gross though....LOL
My dr. wants to remove my right ovary cause I have a cyst that's just not going away. If it is removed do you think that will help with the hormone imbalance?
these pix aren't mine personally. I grabbed them from the internet. They are pretty icky. I image the pix were taken with a laparoscopic camera...inserted transvaginally or thru the belly button. It's amazing the pictures that can be taken. It really does help put a perspective on what pcos looks like.

I have pictures of mine when I had to have some cysts drained and burned. The pictures show the before, during and after. I have no idea why the DR gave me the pictures, but he did, I have them hidden away somewhere and if you want I can post them.
