I haven't tried it but from what I have read and heard it really isn't so great for PCOS, and for lots of women can cause PCOS-like symptoms. Not being negative, just what I have found out from discussions with doctors. Would be a pretty simple bc but I think it is too androgenic (etonogestrel is derived from desogestrel, which, when combined with oestrogen can be a great treatment for PCOS, but without can be too androgenic), and since it is progestogen-only, would make periods irregular or cease altogether. The oestrogen is needed for PCOS to inhibit androgenic activity which causes the problems.
However, some women have great success with it, it is safe to use when breastfeeding, can lessen pain and make periods less troublesome. Hope this helps! Why are you considering it?? You could perhaps try the NuvaRing to see if you at least tolerate etonogestrel (with oestrogen) and then decide..?
Thanks, that was the jist I got from doing research on it...That it wasn't very good for PCOS. I think I liked the idea that it was no fuss for 3 years...I was also considering the mirena IUD but the idea of that freaks me out for some reason.
I will probably end up back on Yasmin...I know for sure that it helps with my PCOS symptoms...

In my opinion, and from what I have read and discussed with doctors, PCOS symptoms are not normally helped by progestogen only treatments, because they are usually a) too androgenic due to the lack of oestrogen, b) may help cramping but not much else (e.g. the Mirena), or c) cause more cyclical problems such as irregular bleeding, painful clotting and the after the course of treatment may cause more problems such as no cycle.
The Mirena can certainly help with pain and seems to have less undesirable effects on weight and acne as the levenorgestrel progestogen is concentrated to the womb. With the implant the side effects seem to be more severe and less helpful to your PCOS!
I hope this helps. I also returned to Yasmin after using the mini-pill and IUD (simultaneously), both of which were awful for me. Ugh...takes a while...! xx
Thanks! Went to my 4 week pp appt today and got my script for yasmin i am actually looking forward to being back on it and not worried about all this ttc stuff. It's a welcome change to the craziness of the last 8 years.
