IMPORTANT I need to know what's going on! PLEASE READ AND ANSWER! NOT THAT GROSS! =0)
Hi there-
Ok this is not that gross...i just had a period on easter after not having one since thanksgiving (yes they always happen on holidays go figure...), anyway it lasted 3 days and ceased. BUT when it started and for the first 2 days i bled pure dark brown colored blood, thick clotty ect. usually that happens at the end but it was at the begginning this time. now after doing the south beach diet for a week, about 3 days in i started this again! (i was happy thinking oooooo it must be helping! ive never had a period so close togther!) anyway, now im on 7th day of south beach and still lightly bleeding this dark brown stuff....all gummy and what not with major stomach pains....so 4 days of brown colored blood or whatever it is...i mean its barely nothing i dont need a tampon but i am worried. i dont know whats going on and i have a bad feeling....just wanted to know if any of you know what this is, or whats going on? i'm gonna call my doc on monday but im just plain freaked out.....please let me know. sorry if i disgusted anyone!!
thanks!
Brown usually indicates old blood or tissue in the uterus. Usually its nothing to be worried about. Maybe your body is priming for a good cycle. I hope this helps, maybe the other cysters have more input, but I wouldn't be worried..

I agree that brown/black usually means old tissue/blood. Your body is getting a good cleaning after such a long time between periods.
Hopefully your next period will be more "normal" with less brown/black blood. If not, try not to worry. Sometimes it takes a couple of cycles.

I ditto all the things other cysters have said here. I have had that happen a lot, try not to worry, you're doing a good thing by calling your Doc Monday, let us know how it goes. I wasn't going to share this, but I will, b/c like katkhan said, we've seen it all....I had a clot the length of a catapillar and the thickness of a golfball, and yes that is sickening, but it is GOOD! Your uterus is shedding what it needs to, so you don't have to have a D&C...
Sorry for the graphics, trying to help, but y'all know we've ALL been there I'll hide now...
lol dont hide! but what if it turns out my whole period is black/brown absolutely no red? this has happened just now, and stopped this morning. nothing else? just black/brown i guess you all call it tissue.....im bugged out lol
I had that for a week last month, then I had something more like a normal period for about the next 6 days. I have to mention that I miscarried back on Feb. 5th. So, that was my first AF after it. I was told just what everybody else has already told you, that it was old blood, that my cervix probably closed before all of it was expelled. As for clots, OGM, I passed one the size of a mouse (ewwwwwwwwwwww) after losing my 2nd baby.
Please let us know how you are doing.

Did you call your doc like you said you were going to on Monday?
Just wondering What did he/she say? I know when I wasn't getting my periods regularly-(unless they're Provera induced), I got a lot of black/brown "tissue/slough" type secretions.
Maybe your period is trying to break through,or you could have just ovulated. I would call your doc if you're really concerned about it.
i called my doc, all he said was to not freak out and come in and hes gonna do another blood test? i was already prodded and poked like a cattle...bah..........ill update la dies. thanks for the answers
