Here is some basic info about blood sugar reading:
A normal fasting blood glucose is below 110 mg/dl. Those with pre-diabetes have Impaired Fasting Glucose (IFG), which is a fasting blood glucose level between 110-125 mg/dl; OR they have Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT), a fasting glucose of less than 126 mg/dl and a blood glucose level of 140-199 mg/dl two hours after drinking the glucose drink in the OGTT test. If the fasting blood sugar level rises to 126 mg/dl or above, or the two-hour value during the OGTT is 200 mg/dl or greater, the person has diabetes.
If you are concerned you are diabetic you can also request that your doctor do a Hemoglobin A1c test that will shows the average amount of glucose in your blood over the last 3 months.
The dawn phenomenon could be the cause of your high fasting blood sugars... This happens when your blood glucose drops during the night to a point that triggers your liver into making glucose to restore your BG levels. If this is the case eating a small snack before bed should lower your fasting BG. However if your BG is running high all day then your doctor should definitely do an Hba1c.
