I wanted to share my hair removal experience with the board. I have been undergoing a combination of laser hair removal on my body and electrolysis on my facial hair in the past month. I wish I would have done this sooner. My facial hair has always made me uncomfortable about making eye contact with people. I also notice a real improvment in the way my face looks overall. It's not a thing of vanity so much but feeling like I fit in with "normal" people. I strongly recommend the electrolysis. It's very affordable and the results are supposed to be permanent. It can be a very painful treatment but I cannot stress enough how good it feels to look in the mirror and not see a moustache staring back at me. I am finished with my upper lip and chin as of yesterday and I am on to my brows and sideburns. When I finish with the hair removal I am going to have my skin tags removed from my neck as well. They charge $150.00 to treat the skin tags with some machine called Vascu lyse. So ladies if you are on the fence about doing any of these treatments...just go for it. I'm so happy with my results.

Laser can be done on the face but I decided to go with the electrolysis because it is permanent right away. Laser is a beam of light that attacks and kills the pigment in the root of the dark hairs. Electrolyis is done by using a needle to go into the hair follicle and it basically fries the hair follicle for good so it can never grow hair again. Laser takes a few tries and they say it works best on people with light skin and dark hair. I did my upper mid back and I was pleased with results that I got from laser. I have to wait and see because it may grow back in a few months. I do know that electrolyisis can be done on many parts of the body.
Personally, I tried electrolysis and all the hair grew back. I have completed three treatments using laser on my face and I couldn't be happier. I hid (tried to hide) my facial hair for years and finally I am "normal". I have one more treatment to go to get the stray ones here and there. I finally told myself that you only live once and if this makes me happy, do it! My treatments cost $150.00 each and they are permanant. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Your hormones are no doubt very much in whack now and that's vital if there's going to be no long-term regrowth. But if your hormones are in the male range on a long-term basis it's very likely that facial hair will eventually grow back after either electrolysis or laser.
I am wondering if my situation with the hair growth is different from others with PCOS. I don't have a problem with an elevated testosterone level at all. Maybe I will have a better result with hair removal? I guess I just need to wait and see on that.
I have hyperinsulinemia and I did take the Depo-Provera shot a few years back which seemed to have preceeded alot of this excess hair growth, acne and a weight gain of fifty pounds in a short period of time. Anyone else out there with excess hair despite not having elevated testosterone levels?

I don't have high testosterone either - well, my last couple of tests were in the "normal" range anyway. Maybe I had it in the past and that caused the hair growth, but I've got them to normal now?

It could be I guess or maybe it has to do with the hyperinsulinemia of PCOS in someway.

Many of us have testosterone levels well into the male range. Unless they're brought down into the female range any attempts at beard or moustache removal by electrolysis or laser are likely to be doomed to failure.
