I just found out today that I had an incomplete m/c, and there is still trophoblastic tissue left in my uterus. I had a natural m/c on April 17th.
My Dr's office is suggesting that I get a shot of methotrexate to empty out everything that is left.
I'm wondering, out of the many options out there, what you ladies chose to do once you found out you had an incomplete m/c, and what happened as a result of your choice, i.e. the m/c completed, side effects, what you would do differently, what your doctor told you about the various options, etc.
I think this might be helpful to those of us out there who are experiencing this, both now and down the road.
I hope to make a sticky thread of this kind of resource for early losses. I'm just slow.
I'm so sorry you're going through a loss as well as this kind of trouble! The loss is bad enough. It doesn't happen too often, but the gals around here usually go with a d&c I think. My losses both took care of themselves, so I didn't have to make a choice. As long as your doc feels comfortable using medicine instead, it might be easier on your body. Give yourself the day off, though, and ask what pain relief you can use. Some people have a lot of cramping.
Good luck with this, and take care,
Sheri

Pluses: Once I woke up, I knew it was over and I didn't have to wait and wonder anymore. Whew!
It was a quick procedure and although I had been told to take off work the next day (which I did), I felt fine and was able to go shopping!
Minuses: There is a slight (1-3%, I think) chance of scar tissue or puncture. And after my 2nd and 3rd losses, I was convinced - and petrified - that I had scar tissue in my uterus. A hysteroscopy confirmed this was NOT the case, and bloodwork confirmed my issues were with my blood.
Side Effects: None, really. The day I got home, it burned when I urinated. Thank goodness, that was back to normal the next day. I bled like an AF for about a week. When you are bleeding from the D&C recovery, you can only use pads/liners, NO TAMPONS.
One thing: Since the D&C is invasive, I will confess I was "leery" and "nervous" about having sex again. After freezing up once, I got through it OK the 2nd time and things were back to normal soon.
I'm so sorry you have to make this choice, and so sorry for your loss.
i had a d&c with one miscarriage and i wouldn't recommend it. my last was an incomplete m/c (the baby was dead 5 wks before we found out). my ob gave me 4 pills to insert in my vagina at bed time and the miscarriage finished by morning. i'm sorry, i can't remember the name of them now. i think it started with *M*.
sorr you have to go through this.

This would make a good sticky Sheri, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who has to make such a difficult decision!
Fortunately, I talked to an MD yesterday (not the midwife) who said he did not want to use this option on me. He thinks that I either 1-Had an ectopic pg and there's a bit of placenta hanging on in the tube, which would make the hcg's fluctuate, or 2-I had a normal m/c, then got pg again right away, and lost that baby almost immediately, within 7 days of implantation. They did another hcg test yesterday and I'm waiting on the results. It should tell me which of the above happened. I guess I'm on the "wait & see" method for awhile longer.
What an ordeal! I hope you get some answers very soon so that you can start thinking about the future. I plan to create some resource stickies for early and late losses, but it is going to take time to look through all of this material. I agree that there are lots of cysters with this decision to make, unfortunately.
(((Hugs)))
