Hi, I looked for this earlier to see if someone had posted on this but I couldn't find anything. It is like my sense of smell has increased and because of it my sense of taste. I can't hardly tolerate things I used to be able to tolerate like my daughter's diapers. Also I seem to have lost my appetite because I will eat rice in a paper package and taste cardboard (after it is cooked) I ate soup today and swore I could taste the tin can! It is really ruining my enjoyment of food! Has this happened to anyone else?

well...i do have the problem of feeling nauseous when i eat more carbs than normal and do feel full faster than i used to.....maybe your sense of smell has also become sharper...but it may go after a while...how long have u been on met??...i'm on it for more than a month now and feel i've adjusted to it ...hang on and i think things will improve

I had that too at first on met. It is called Dysosmia (distorted sense of smell) and it took a couple of months to go away (along with Dysgeusia - distorted sense of taste), but I couldn't even walk near the kitchen sick or I'd start feeling queasy because of the smell of our dish soap. Certain foods would just make me ill.
It will likely pass as your body gets used to the meds, but in the meantime, it's a good excuse to tell Dh he's on diaper duty.
Take care!

Wow! thanks for the replies. I can't believe there is a name for this. I have been on met for 2 1/2 months and I got over the fatigue about a month ago, but this just started up. It is crazy! Anyway, I feel better. Thanks again to you both!

I ate soup today and swore I could taste the tin can!
I just want to add that a fairly common side effect of Met is a metallic taste in the mouth.

hmmmmm I've done the heightened smell thing too....... though I'm debating if I'm dealing with early PG signs or not..
but trying to differ that between my meds (Avandamet) side effects is difficult.. may be doing a HPT soon.

We're studying the nose in anatomy and the prof, who is also an MD (general surgery I think) said that during ovulation a woman's sense of smell gets more keen.
