7 years ago, I had a baby who died of what they called Orthanine Transcarbamylase Deficiency (OTC)is a protein defiency disorder caused by a lack of enzyme. Has anyone else had a child born with this? At the time, the doctors told me that PCOS would not have been the cause of the birth defect. Ha. Now, 7 years later, I find out baby #2 has no heartbeat at 10.5 weeks. Doing research on my own, I have read more than I want to about PCOS and the effects it has on our children. I thought you all would be better to ask than my doctor.
First I am so sorry for your losses, I can't imagine how hard it's been for you!!
I wish I had some answers for you but I don't know anything about that disorder, I hope someone else can come up with something!!

the only thing I have heard about PCOS is that it runs in families but I don't truly believe it runs in mine. I am the only one in my family who has been diagnosed with it and almost all the women in my family are fat, have facial hair and skin tags. Other than those symptoms, none of the women in my family had problems getting pregnant. There were a few miscarriages that I know of from Aunts. However, I did find out that my goddaughter has insulin resistance. She was specifically tested for it as she gained about 30 lbs in one year when she started college and she happens to be allergic to milk and has asthma. In discussing my condition with my family, my mom told me of her miscarriage prior to getting pregnant with me and she always had a heavy period that would last 7 days and would be a longer cycle about 32 days. Currently, my cycle has been 30 days, lasting for 8 and my sister's cycle is 28 days lasting for 5. So I don't really know if you can pass it on to your children.
To my knowledge, there is no connection between pcos and that particular problem, but I haven't seen anything on the subject.
The first trimester loss is at a common time, around here. Unfortunately those often have to do with our messed up hormones not taking good care of our babies. But there can obviously be other reasons. I hope that you take some time to grieve and heal and can try again if you want to. We'll be here to listen, whatever you are going through! ((Hugs))

Have you tried talking to a doctor about it? I don't know if a genetic counselor could give you answers. I had a baby with birth defects, and no one on SC has had a baby with the same condition that I know of. We spoke to a genetic counselor and a maternal fetal specialist, and it helped in our situation.
I'm so sorry. Did they do any tests on the baby you miscarried? I haven't had a miscarriage, but if I did, I would insist on testing because of what happened to Eric. And I did a lot of research on the cause of Eric's death, so I could understand it better. I was obsessed actually. I would definitely talk to a doctor about it.
I'm so sorry for your losses. I hope you figure out what happened.
I don't blame you for thinking there is some sort of connection between PCOS and genetic defects in babies. I am convinced that there probably is one too. I have a child with a chromosomal abnormality, who is alive and well but struggles with health and developmental problems. Last year in August I lost a baby due to another, completely unrelated genetic syndrome. Those are the only two times I have been pregnant. My theory is that PCOS may cause poor egg quality, similar to what happens when a woman gets older and tends to conceive more babies with birth defects that either miscarry, are born still or have developmental/health problems. I saw a genetic counselor who told me there is no connection. But I do not believe her. After meeting so many wonderful ladies on this site who have suffered losses due to birth defects, and meeting so many who have had multiple miscarriages (and many miscarriages are due to chromosomal abnormalities), it seems absurd to me to think that there is no connection. Is it more complicated? Sure. Are there other problems that lead to miscarriage and premature birth in ladies with PCOS? Definitely (progesterone, etc). But no amount of reassurance from the powers that be have given me any evidence that my theory is wrong.
