Question inflammed thyroid?

I hope someone can hel[ me with this.... I am 5 months postpartum after along struggle with pcos. We have a beautiful son thank God! Anyway I just had some blood work done and they thbink I may have an inflaMMED thyroidanyone know what this is and what it means?

Hi Shawn--

I would take "inflamed thyroid" to mean that your thyroid is being attacked---possibly by your own body--like an autoimmune thing such as Hashimoto's. This often leads to hypthyroidism. This is just a guess on my part though, but that's how I would take it.

I would have to agree. Sounds like the start of Hashi's... which is easily treated. It is not uncommon for women to develop a thyroid issue after pg. Putting you on a medication like Synthroid will help calm this down and you should feel better soon. GOod luck to yoU!

Hi

inflamed thyroid could be the start of Hashimotos thyroidits, where your body prodcues antibodies against your own thyroid gland, resulting in hypothyroidism. (However, your body is also able to produce antibodies that stimulate your thyroid gland, and cause hyperthyroidism. This is know as grave's disease, and is rarer that Hashis)
