Default Info on Dr. Webb-LapBand surgeon in Jax, FL??

Hello Cysters,
I'm in the beginning stages of setting things up to get LabBand surgery. There's an excellent doctor in Ocala (Dr. Jawad, i went to a seminar he held a year or so ago in St. Auggie), but that's a bit far (ok, really far...)...My sister, who is also considering LabBand (she talked me into considering it!) said there's a Dr. in Jacksonville named Dr. Webb. He's fairly new to the LabBand from what she said, but she also said that he's been doing Laproscopic surgeries for YEARS and that Dr's who start with Laproscopic stuff tend to fall right into the LapBand procedeure with ease.

So, I was just wondering if any of you have had a surgery (of any kind) with Dr. Steven Webb in Jacksonville. If so, please let me know what you thought. I'd like to get some personal stories before making a consultation.

Thanks!
~Panda~

Tammy,
LapBand surgery is a bariatric surgery (weight-loss surgery). I'm surprised you haven't heard about it...it's been all over the news. But basically, they place a band around the upper part of your stomache to create the "pouch" that they surgically make in the gastric bypass. This band has a sort of "balloon" on the inside of it that can be filled or emptied to make the opening of the pouch larger or smaller (this is done by a port that is placed just under the skin on your side that is connected to the band by a small tube). You can do a yahoo or google search on it. It doesn't have much to do with actual PCOS other than helping to lose weight.

Hope that helped...

Oh WOW!! I have looked into standard gastric bypass sugery where they surgically make the pouch, but Ihadn't heard of the banding....I have also seriously considered the bypass route. The military says my BMI isn't high enough to meet their standards to cover it. I have a BMI of 38% and the last doc I talked to said it had tobe 42%....my argument to that is,they have never put me on the actual BMI monitor, they just use a general formula with height and weight.....I used to be very comfortable at 125 pounds...many many many years ago....now I am 225 pounds.....that's 100 over ...I think I should qualify.....I have a GYN appointment tomorrow at NAS Jax....pray, I can use all the luck I can get!!
