Thumbs down info please

hi all

I've had pcos for nearly a year now
been on tablets for the hair and depression, each one to counteract the other.
now just been put on the pill. which I was told before not allowed to go on.(smoking +age).
but this gives me migraines,(but i shall try it)

then i was told by the doc that she wanted to do diabetes urine test.because of my dry mouth drinking loads, tiredness etc. i have looked up about pcos and diabetes but can only find info on one or the other.could anybody tell me more or head me in the right direction to finding info.

ps... i was also told that i could not go on metformin because it was only for women trying to get pregnant, where i have been sterilized. But i found info that says the opposite ,it can be used for all women whether they wish to be come pregnant or not. and if i am wrong please let me know but metformin is also a treatment for pcos+diabetesII.

thanks
Becky..

Glucophage (metformin) is definitely NOT only a drug for women trying to get pregnant. It actually began as a diabetes medication and is still used to treat diabetics.

Lots of women with PCOS are insulin resistant, which causes some of the fertility problems. By correcting this problem with Glucophage, the hormone levels are often leveled out and chances for fertility improves.

If your blood sugar says that you're diabetic, your doctor needs to either help you regulate through diet and exercise or give you medicines (like Glucophage) to help the blood sugar stay normal.

Hope this helps!

Buckeyejen is quite right. Glucophage (metformin) was originally developed for treatment of Diabetes TII. It was later discovered that it had the added benefit of treating some of the symptoms of women with PCOS and IR (since IR is considered a pre-diabetic condition)
I am diabetic T II, NOT trying to conceive and am taking Glucophage originally for my diabetes, but now also to help my recent diagnosis of PCOS.

Good luck with u Doctor in finding a treatment right for u

As far as info, u'r probably going to have more luck finding info when u combine PCOS with IR, since, as I said, IR is a pre-diabetic condition and most closely associated with PCOS...when diabetes is actually developed, doctors seem to want to take that and run with it and forget about the PCOS.

Thumbs up THANKS TO YOU BOTH

THANKS LOADS -
BUCKEYEJEN & SWEETERTHANMOST

I'm grateful for your info.
I'm going to a different doctor in the practice next as the one I went to last doesn't seem to listen, i know they're busy but it seems that she is just not taking in what i say, so i'm collecting info to take with me as well.

plus I'll wait for the diabetes test results to come back first.
the test is being done on monday.

thanks again to you both
Becky.
