For all of you that are pregnant and stressing. You all need to stay positve and stop thinking or over analyzing everything. When I found out I was pregnant I stopped coming into this site for a while. Because all the stuff on here made me nervous and scared that i would have another misscariage. (I 've had 3 misscariages in the past). Everyone is different jsut becasue someone is taking it or not taking it doesnt mean its what YOU should do. For myself, the doctor told me i should take gluphomage( spell check) but then when I found out i was pregnant I was already 2 months. She told me I was out of the misscariage zone. SO i just listened to her, knowing that on this board other woman take that or metfor for longer than that made me nervous i was freaking out!!. I started to worry so what I did was get away from this board that was freaking me out on "what if, why not,," .. Now I'm 4 months and doing great. I can come back to the board in peace. I know how you all feel i was really scared that something would go wrong.

Hi,
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in July '07, and started on met in Sept. My DH and I are going to start TTC this fall and this was one of my major concerns. I've gotten conflicting advice from my various dr.'s, but my current endo. has told me that I can stay on it at least through the first trimester. This would be my first PG, so everything is new. Thanks for the articles, the info makes me feel more confidant.

Thank You so much for posting these articles. I hope and Pray my dr keeps me on Met (I'm currently taking 2000 mg/per day) This is my first PG and I'm terrified of a m/c and I worry about it all the time. I've read stats that women with PCOS have like a 50% Chance of M/C and I almost cried! But this article that stated that w/ Met that chance is down to 12% it really gave me hope. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy 9 Months! Baby dust to all!

Thanks JaneenRice! It is so hard not worry. I pray everyday for it's safety and protection! I'm looking forward to 2nd trimester. I'm doing everything I can to prevent a m/c from happening. Did you know that if you stop drinking anything with caffeine it will reduce your chance of m/c as well?

I just had a miscarriage last week and it has helped me reading info in the coping with loss section. I understand it may help some people not to be here but it also may help.
I am hoping and praying we are able to get pregnant again without too much trouble and I have a healthy baby! We are waiting to go back to the dr to get another blood test done and I am going to find out then how long we have to wait before we try again. I hope it isn't too long!!!!

I am 12 weeks pregnant and my doctor wants me to stop taking Metformin. I am really not comfortable with this. I am scared that I will m/c. The only sort of info she gave me was that she spoke with a specialist and he/she said that there is no reason for me to be on it after 12 weeks. I keep emailing her and she won't answer my direct question about m/c. Please give me some info on your experiences....
Thanks!
There has been a new study done in the USA. my Australian doc found it and now new study proves that met add's to MC rate. I stopped taking met right away.

I have been on metformin for a couple years and it was helping me lose weight. I was surprised by a pregnancy 4 weeks ago and took myself off it until my first doctors visit but now at 8 weeks along I have gained 10 lbs and been eating better than before. I don't know what I'm going to do if the doctor tells me not to take it.
hi , i was diagnosed with PCOS in the end of 2005 and my doc gave me metformin. now i am 16 weeks preg To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. , was taking 1000mg of metformin
pre pregnancy, when i got preg, i started takin only 500mg n doc told me to continue till 12 wks.... so now i have stopped and well, still pregnant,by GODs grace!!!!! so all of u out ther dnt worry and GOD bless!!!
I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. My Ob/GYN put me on Glucaphage 2000mg a day for weight loss. After taking it for three months I became pregnant!! He DID explain to us that the Glucaphage/ Metformin will help aid in the baby making process. I dropped my dose to 1000mg a day since becoming pregnant. He told us that it will help balence out the weight gain and also help protect against miscarriage and preterm labor. He calls it a Miracle drug for women with PCOS. I have been told per my OB/GYN to stay on it up until time to deliver. Then go back up to 2000mg after I have the baby. I am now 6 months pregnant. We have a little girl coming..A true miracle!! Oh and I was actually losing weight on this medication before I got pregnant too!!

Reason: adding to it
My RE's office called me a few days ago to get updated info on the results of my 2nd pregnancy (I gave them updates on all 3 though) sounds like they needed it for study purposes (about staying on met for your entire pregnancy) so maybe we'll be seeing another study soon.
My RE - Dr. Andrea Dunaif does extensive research on PCOS. She said that it is no longer recommended to give Metformin during pregnancy, even the first trimester. Not to scare anyone who already is, it does depend on your situation. She wouldn't start me on Metformin, since I was already pregnant by the time I finally got to see her. I did stop all herbal/other supplements I was taking. I agree with SoulSista that what works for one person will not work for all. I did find that everything I read on the internet regarding miscarriages stressed me out. Looking back, I wish I had not done that, as that would have caused more harm to the baby than any condition/medicine I would have had/taken.
Best wishes.

I just want to say they will have to pry the bottle of glucophage out of my cold dead hands before I would let ANYONE take it from me, I have taken thru each of my pregnancies and know had I not been taking it I would have ended up with GD. There are lots of Drs out there doing research I just happen to want to listen to the ones with the positive turn on Glucophage.
Yes taking Glucophage during pregnancy is like taking any drug during pregnancy but for me I know I wouldn't be pregnant or have my sugar levels be in the normal range if I had let a Dr talk me out of not taking it. there is more positive information out there about taking it during pregnancy and BFing then there is Negitive Info, so as for me,myself and I, I will continue to stay on my Glucophage. Just My Opinion.

Yep, I think each person has to make their own decisions about it. I'm one that prefers to stay on it. I've done it the last three times with great results, I'm sticking with something I KNOW worked for me... maybe I'd be fine without it, but since I've never tried that I don't know for sure and don't want to risk it. Not saying everyone should stay on it, but I plan to.
