My Mood: Points: 878.02 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 878.02 | I insisted on staying on Met (1800md) and on progesterone supplements thru my 1st tri. because of the rates of mc for women with PCOS. Little Marius is almost 7 months old. He is a Met/Clomid baby. Now the symptoms are coming back but because I breastfeed, no one will prescribe Met for me until I stop breastfeeding.

My Mood: Points: 1,063.05 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,063.05 | I wanted to add that in my case, I was not IR prior to my pregnancy and I was tested very early (Jan) for my Endo visit as well. She did say that my physical symptoms do indicate that I might develop it soon, as I was still not obese, but do carry most of my weight in the mid-section. I think in my situation it made sense for her not to start me on Metformin. I took cinnamon prior to the pregnancy, as no doctor would check my testosterone or give me any medication to lower it once I stopped the BCP. I stopped the cinnamon in January. I did gain a lot of weight in the first tri. as I was on bed rest due to the bleeding. I am now walking half an hour a day to prevent GD, but given the weight gain, I probably am still highly likely to get it. Personally I would have felt better if I was on Metformin.

After what I've read here I'm staying on it and getting further advice. I'm hoping the nurse at the surgery will give me another 2 months worth. |

My Mood: Points: 202.34 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 202.34 | Well I saw the nurse this morning and she wouldn't go against the Dr's advice. So she made another appt for me to se the other doctor in the practice. He refused to let me have Met as pregnancy is one of the contra -indications. I was going to see if I could go private, but it will cost a fortune and after re-reading this thread I'm going to carry on taking the Met, but 500mg a day instead of 1000mg. That dose should take me pretty much to 12 weeks. |

My doctor had me stop taking it as soon as I found out I was PG (at 4 1/2 weeks) and not knowing any better, I willingly stopped taking it. After my m/c, I did some research and found some articles similiar to the ones posted here, and now I will always wonder if that had something to do with my m/c.
I plan to show her all these articles and then some, and if she still won't refill my prescription, I will beg, borrow or steal to get Metformin if necessary! | To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. My experience was exactly the same. Within 2 days of stopping the met I started the m/c. There were a couple of 2 week periods this last year where I was off the met so I have a little bit of an extra supply. And my script is set to auto renew until Sept. I got 2 lines this morning.

My Mood: Points: 10,893.94 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 10,893.94 | I am 12.5 weeks pregnant and the first thing my doctor asked me when I said I was takinig met, was if I was using it for conception or not. I think that was a deciding factor in the wether to make me stop using it or not. I was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
He said there are articles and studies out all the time that Met is beneficial to women with diabetes and PCOS throughout the pregnancy and is just as effective as insulin. He sees no reason why I should stop taking it, especially if it's helping with my blood sugars. I take 2000mg a day and split it in to four doses to help regulate.
I was talking to someone on another thread and their doctor(s) said met was bad and to take Glycophin...is that it? I can't remember, hehe. I think it probably depends on the doctor. But, I have type 2 diabetes and since my doc said it's fine for met...I'd much rather do that than insulin, plus it's working so far.

My Mood: Points: 1,477.14 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,477.14 | I will be 17 weeks pregnant tomorrow and my OB doesn't understand at why I want to continue taking metformin. She said that I only need it the 1st trimester and that there is no benefit after that. She even went as far to say that it could actually do more harm toward the baby than it would good to me. My prescription runs out this week and I have no idea what to do. I don't have another appointment for 3 weeks, and will be long out of the metformin by then. :O( |
