If he/she put you on it, I'd stay on it until your RE or OB tells you to stop. (Mine had me stop at 35 weeks. I stayed on heparin till I delivered.)

I was diagnosed about a year ago and recently found out that I am 7 weeks pregnant. I was on glucaphoge for a couple of months but could no longer afford for insurance reasons. However, my periods returned and stayed consistent. When i found out the mc rate for women with pcos i panicked. To know that there is a way to reduce this is a big relief and i plan on talking to my ob about it. Wish me luck and goddess bless you all. I have not been on Met for abougt 2 months.....so I'm really suprised that I'm pregnant.
I will hopefully be in to see my Dr. sometime late this week or early next. I'm wondering if starting Met again will cause problems with the pregnancy?
I'm very much afraid of miscarriage.

Points: 6,153.49 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,153.49 | HI,
I am in 1000mg of met a day. My original dr told me to quit as soon as I got my BFP. Im 16 weeks and have still been taking it.
I am overweight (219) prepreg and now the same weight. At my Dr appt yesterday my new doc told me to quit the metformin. I asked about gd and she said it wasnt an issue and they would test for it...and treat it if I got it. After I voiced my concern about quiting met she said to go to 500mg a day...and to wean myself off.
My concern now is weight gain and gestational diabetes. With the weight gain all the reading I have been doing is telling me that "larger/heavier" women prepreg shouldnt gain as much weight as those who are skinny. As it can cause complications. Im afraid that once I go off the met my weight will go out of control. I have this concern because prepreg when I wasnt taking met my weight would balloon when I was barely eating at all...and when I took met prepreg I could actually eat "normally" and maintain and even lose weight.
My other concern is that going off the met can increase my chances of getting gd.
Anyone have any similar concerns or stories?

I strongly agree that Metformin should be used during pregnancy. I used Metformin throughout my pregnancy even when my endo told me not to. I now have a healthy 6 month old baby girl. It was really a security blanket for me especially throughout the first trimester and I only stopped it a week before my scheduled c-section. I did develop Gestational Diabetes though. But, we are all fine now.
Karen | I am new to the boards so sorry if I mess it up! I am 11 weeks today after 9 years and 8 bad doctors! We are so happy!I just had a glucose test and it was elevated even though I am on glucophage!Any advice?I feel better that other people stayed on the metformin and had healthy babies because I will stay on it the whole time! Thanks!Mosie |

He is the best doctor in the world for PCOS and treats the last I heard over 2500 women with PCOS and has done major research, studies and papers on PCOS. He did tell me if I get pregnant he will keep me on Glucophage. I do NOT take generic because it acts different in women with PCOS, which I experienced with and found was true. I do NOT take Birth Control, because it makes IR worse. and I do take 750 xr of glucophage 3 times a day, a really high dose and I have had excellent results. Just wanted to share my treatment.

I was put on 1500mg in April... I was on 1500mg 'till 2 weeks ago.. My Dr. wants me to be off by Jan 1st( I am 18 1/2weeks PG) but I am going to take 1000mg for about another 6 weeks ( I still have a refill remaining on the Rx..so I am filling it..w/out him knowing..) so I will be 24weeks when I totally get off..do you think I should wean myself off and go down to 500mg for the last week or so..I can't ask my Dr. because he wants me off in 2weeks..he did say to stop gradually...what do you girls think...?
I wouldn't mind staying on 'till the end...I think the MET helps keep me 'regular' so far no pregnancy constipation at all...
I wonder if I will get an accurate reading at my 26week glucose tolerance test being that I will just have gotten off 2weeks before??
thanks..hope I didn't confuse you all...

-rani | Rani...I'm staying on my met for the entire pregnancy - I should have enough refills to get me through. I also find it helps keep me regular - and from gaining alot of weight. In fact, I haven't gained more than a 1 pound....but baby is doing fine and measuring ahead - so I am getting everything I need.
I think if I find out that I'm running low on met towards the end I'll go down to 1 pill a day - if nothing else but to help with constipation problems.
