My Mood: Points: 2,260.88 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,260.88 | (m/c ment) All I know is, all of the RE's at Columbia, including my RE who is a known PCOS expert in the field, are all adamant about PCOS-er's staying on Met for the ENTIRE first trimester. I had a m/c but it was because of a blighted ovum and I actually had to have a d&c - my body did not want to let the pg go on it's own, which is in an odd way almost a good thing.
Just make sure a proper DOCTOR is giving you the advice and not a nurse. I don't really trust them like I would trust a doctor. They didn't go to 10 years of school and residency and specializing the the RE's did. Also if your RE is a PCOS expert, that's really the best thing.
That said: CONGRATS on your BFP!!!

At 26 wks, my Perinatologist asked me why I was still on it, and I told him that since research was showing more reasons to stay on it during pregnancy than to go off of it, well, esp in regards to reductions in the risk of developing Gestational Diabetes.....
He said "OK then". LOL I am not having ANY problems with my pregnancy at all, other than some cervical thinning (so I am on bedrest)....
But that's not related to being on met--that's cause I'm having twins, lol. Which, combined with my age, the fact I was already overweight, my PCOS status, etc, already raises my risk of developing GD....why not do something that could reduce the risk?
I'm being very careful with my diet, etc, but I am still going to take my metformin. I've not had the sugar cravings I had with my last pregnancy, and I want to keep it that way.
Rachel

I feel comfortable doing so since it worked well for me the last two times. |

I stopped using metformin for about a week and I just got my BFP. Is it ok to start back taking it right away? |

I'm so glad I found this thread b/c I'm going to start TTC in June and I'm gearing up for a fight to keep my Met. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Points: 2,896.66 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,896.66 | How long have most of you stayed on the met while pg? My OB said he wants me on it through the 1st tri. I had an appt at 11 1/2 weeks and he mentioned going off of it and I said I wasn't ready. I'm 15 1/2 weeks now. How long should I stay on it? If I have a c-section when should I wean off of it? Will weaning off of it cause problems?? Thanks for any advice!!

Points: 239.40 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 239.40 | I have read through some of these posts. I am 7 weeks pregnant and the doctor told me to go off of the met. I am not insulin resistant, but anovulatory. The met did help me to get pregnant. Since I am not insulin resistant, should I stop taking the met or stay on it? |

I think different doctors beliive different things so it can be hard to figure out how to proceed. I can tell you from my experience that everything worked out fine when I stayed on it for my last two pregnancies (however, maybe it would have been fine if I had gotten off too.... hard to know). Good luck! |

My Mood: Points: 44,309.83 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 44,309.83 | I definitely recommend staying on it. The information I've read has indicated that staying on metform reduces a cyster's risk of miscarrying down to the level of a 'typical' woman. We start out with a much higher risk. Also, it reduces our chances of gestational diabetes which are normally higher due to our tendency toward IR.
I think it's a good idea and I'm staying on it this pg too.
