Question Ingrown hair - what to do?

I have had problems with ingrown hair on my chin for the past 10 years and still haven't found a way to get rid of it. Over the past couple of years it's started under my arms and bikini area as well.

I'd like to be able to try some of the hair removal products that are on the market - I even bought Vaniqa at one time - but as long as I have sores at all times from the ingrown hair, I never get the chance to try them.

Has anyone found a solution, or "work-around", for this ugly and painfull problem?

Along time ago when I used to shave myself bare down there I found that I had a ton of ingrown hairs that discouraged me from shaving. A friend told me to apply Secret Baby Powder Deodorant(no other scent) and though I thought she was on crack it actually worked for me.
I have also tried a diaper cream that comes in a flat round tin (Can't remember the name.) that seemed to work.

I have had the same problems, especially in the bikini area. I found a product called Tend Skin. I actually read about it on a post here and did a search and found a supplier. It works wonders. I am hooked. Good Luck.

Default HATE ingrown hairs!

Hi all,
I've been a member for a while but haven't visited in forever. I just recently started laser treatments for hair on my chin and am waiting to see how that goes before I start it on my bikini area. That area has gotten so much worse over the last couple of years....more and more hair!! I'm very fair skinned and have VERY sensitive skin, so I've tried waxing but it was too harsh and depilatories work great but I still get the ingrown hairs. Then i found out I have to SHAVE before the laser treatments. ARGH! That's the worst! I always get painful red bumps (which leave red spots that take FOREVER to fade), ingrown hairs, and I swear it makes more hair come in (although people say that's an old wives' tale). So...my derm said to:
1) shave with a glycolic acid shave gel
2) she gave me a steroid cream to put on before bedtime (after I shave)
3) use a razor with a single blade. Ingrown hairs can be worse if you shave too closely (like using a razor with 3 blades).

It's summer (forget wearing a bathinsuit), and I have a new boyfriend, so I hate how unsightly I look "down there," I feel like a complete Amazon, though I guess I'm lucky it's not worse. And I'm terribly frustrated because I just shaved in the shower and I started bleeding. Do I just have to be patient with these new creams and razors, etc., for that area to finally start calming down? Or is lazer the only thing that will really help and I just have to wait it out until then. If anyone has any suggestions for REALLY SENSITIVE skin with lots of ingrown hair problems, I'm all ears. Thanks, from a frustrated "newbie." (this cyster diagnosed Aug 2003).

p.s. Yasmin has been great after you gets used to it after about 3-4 months. Skin MUCH BETTER, testosterone way down (normal now). I heard this is the best BCP for bringing down testosterone.

Default SKin products

Hi again!
By the way, I found a site called DermStore.com, they have all kinds of skin products for sensitive skin, ingrown hairs, etc...that's where you'll find glycolic acid shave gel. They have a lot of products for men as well (who have a hard time with ingrown facial hair, so those are bound to work for us, too). My dermatologist recommended that site, too. Just wanted to pass that along!
