Default Injectables to have a baby since clomid failed for me?? need help?

im currently on metformin 1700mg a day i have pcos/borderline diabetes to. a while back i did the clomid and it did nothing for my ovaries at all and both of my ovaries did not respond to the medicine. my doc took me off the clomid and now recommended i do injectables (which are expensive) if i choose to do this route what are the chances ill conceive? i dont want to waste my money if this would not work for me i was so dissapointed when i found out that both my ovaries were not functioning or even stimulated from the clomid. i could really use some help because i dont know if i should give my hopes up on trying the injectable or not just worried ill be dissapointed.

In my opinion, it's DEFINITELY worth a try...and the $$$! I was clomid resistant as well as letrizole resistant. I had to take the injectables. They worked for me...I had #1 in 2007. They are actually a lot less frustrating than clomid b/c the dr monitors you really close. You don't have to chart or guess if you ovulate...=)
Good luck in whatever you decide...but don't let them scare you...I'm the biggest baby ever when it comes to stuff like that, and before it was over with (it took me 2 cycles) I was a pro!!

My RE or OB never said anything like that. BUT...I NEVER ovulated on anything before injectables and the trigger shot. If they recommended it, I'd atleast try once. Can they do tests before the injectables?? That might be a less expensive way to find out if they're functioning...honestly never heard of it, so I can't be of much help. SORRY...=(

I responded to 8 cycles of clmmid just as you did NOT AT ALL!

When I started seeing my RE the first cycle I did I did clomid, Repronex injections, HCG trigger shot and IUI. That cycle was a BFN. I mainly did clomid to save money as it is much cheaper than injections. The second cycle I did Repronex injections, HCG trigger shot and IUI, got pregnant and had my son who is now 2.5

When TTC again I got pregnant on the third cycle of Rrpronex injections, HCG trigger shot and IUI and miscarried. When allowed to TTC again I used the same drugs that have given me my two previous pregnancies and got pregnant on the first cycle after my m/c.

HTH. Best of luck to you!

Same story here...I never O'd on 3 cycles of Clomid including 150mg and just tried Femara 5mg with no response either. I see the doctor at 8AM tomorrow to find out about starting injects.

I don't think it's that your ovaries aren't "functioning"...I think they're not "responding". Meaning they aren't growing any follicles even with the medications. The oral medications work for about 80% of women. Unfortunately, that means at least 20% of us end up on shots.

If you want to, you can BD normally on injects as long as there are no male factor problems. That being said, IUI is cheap compared to injectables ($250 - $400) so a lot of people go ahead and do it during injectable cycles to improve their chances because the medicines are so expensive.

Good luck to all of us!
