Default Injections...is it too soon???

So I have had two cycles taking 7.5 mg of Femara on cd 3-7 and then triggering with Ovidrel after u/s showed mature follie. The first time the follie was huge (according to nurse), but they gave me the Ovidrel and I got my first ever BFP followed by a miscarriage at 6 weeks. The second cycle my follies didn't mature enough and was cancelled. My RE says it is obvious I am not responding to the Femara and we should move on to injections. My thought is I did respond the first time, but for some reason not the second. My RE said my weight could be the reason (I am 300 lbs). I meet with my RE on Monday to discuss moving on to injections, but I was hoping to hear other people's stories regarding injections. I am really nervous about having to give myself a shot! Thanks for any and all responses.

I'm on my 7th cycle of Femara. It's always worked, and I actually got pregnant on my first Femara cycle followed by a miscarriage at 8 weeks. My RE won't let me do more than 8 Femara cycles before moving on to injectibles. My biggest concern with injectibles is a 20%!!!! risk of twins. I am hoping if I do decide to go that route that the shot will be like the HCG trigger... small and not that painful.
Anyone know?

I just did my first round of injects and really feel good about it. It was slow and I did 50iu for 13 days before I could trigger and do my IUI. Here are my thoughts:

The Good:
Every night I felt like I was proactively working towards my bfp
I was closely monitored so I always knew what my body was/wasn't doing
The shots didn't hurt nearly as much as I thought they would. It wasn't bad

The Bad:
It's physically and emotionally draining - all the trips to the RE's...ugh. Sometimes 3xweek
The chances of overstimming and having to cancel the cycle are big
My Re wouldn't let me go about 50iu which is really low

In the end, I only had one follie so there is almost no chance that I'll have twins.

I also only did 2 cycles of Femara. The first I got one follie, the second nothing. My RE said that if it didn't work that time it probably wouldn't work the next time so he recommended the injects.

Hope that helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

i have used injectibles to get pg with my ds and with this pg. With DS it took 2 rnds and I had 3 mature follicles and had a singleton pg. This time it took more times with breaks inbetween ( due to moving and Dh being in the military) I did have 1 cancelled cycle, and this cycle that I got pg on my 6th time we added a second injection so I was taking menupor and follsitm.. I had 2 good follicles with the posibility of 4 others.

I found out today that i am having twins, but it is not from 2 eggs but rather 1 that split.

how much are injectables? Do insurance companies normally cover them? That would play into my decision as well.

Injectables can be very expensive, but some insurance companies pay for them. My insurance pays for them 100%.

I think injectables are super easy. I never took Clomid or Femara so I can't compare, but friends that have both say less side effects on injectables.

There are a lot of visits with injectables, it will all depend on how you respond to the meds. Thing is, I am not sure that the success rates on injects are that much higher than on Clomid/Femara.

It is a little strange that you did respond to Femara and now after one cycle they are pushing something new. Definitely find out WHY?? At your RE appt.

About me - I am slim, non IR but with PCOS (116 pounds), I was on Metformin for 6 months still no period. The RE completely skipped Clomid/Femara since i am 100% annovulatory. I started with injectables. I over responded, I was at the RE's every morning for 19 days to be monitored. Because of the risk of OHSS (reserach this if you are doing injectables) and the risk of HOM's I switched to IVF. With IVF your success rates are much higher with much the same monitoring, although of course a much higher cost.

Good luck to you, KUP how the appointment goes and what you decide.

I'm new to this site. Well not super New, I joined about a month ago. Just wanted to introduce myself. I was Diagnosed with PCOS in 2002. We are TTC our 1st. In October I was put on Provera. Af came and went. Had my HSG and all was fine with that too. Started Clomid 100mg for 5 days and didnt respond. In the same cycle I was given 200mg of Clomid for an additonal 5 days... Still no responce. So Yesterday(Cd20)I started 150 units of Gonal Injectable. out of pocket cost is around $750 for Gonal-F 900 Units. My insurance covers it with a $35.00 Co-Pay. So today is CD21 and I am just wondering what your guys experiance was. Have you ever heard of continuing to try and O on CD20?? It seems late to me but I dont get regular periods so does it matter?I love that my RE is treating me so aggressivly. and I know the chance of twins is 20% with injectable(which i am fine with) but I thought it went like this...

Af
Clomid
O or No O
2ww
Provera
AF(new Cycle)

Not

Provera
AF
Clomid 100mg
No O
Clomid 200mg
No O
Gonal-F 150 units?...

Any Advice?

I'm right in the middle of an injectibles cycle. Last cycle I took 50mgs of Clomid, and it was a BFN. The clomid side effects sucked, and I had sore boobs for 3 weeks! This cycle we skipped straight to 150iu of Follistim + Trigger + IUI. It feels soooo much better! I'm also a heavy cyster (280lbs), and they said it could be my weight as well, but my numbers are good and I'm responding to the Follistim nicely. I was scared about the shot as well, but honestly most times I can't even feel that needle. I keep asking my husband if he got the needle all the way in! There's TONS of monitoring, so they'll be aware of issues with multiples. Just make sure you have time for all that monitoring...that's the biggest pain.

I'm also in the middle of my first inject cycle. I'm using the follistim pen and it's super easy, meds sting a little going in, but it doesn't hurt. I think the higher the dose the more sting, but that could just be me, I love it compared to Clomid, no mood swings or night sweats. I am starting to become pretty bloated and have hot flashes sometimes bug I do that when I'm not on meds, I pay out of pocket, which is pretty expensive, this cycle alone I've already spend $1200 on meds and $1200 on the doctor visits, I have to ho everyother day. Talk to your insurance company they can tell you if they cover IF. Also u found Alexander twin pharmacy has the cheapest follistim, and Freedom pharmacy has good Gonal-F prices as well as ovidrel. Best of luck, and lots of baby dust!
