Question inositol

I haven't a clue where to buy DCI, I live in the uk. I wondered if anyone had tried inositol? they have the 650mg tablets available at holland and barrett.. is it worth a try? I've read this on one of my favourite pcos websites..

Quote:
Since d-chiro inositol is not available, what about ordinary inositol, which is readily available as a nutritional supplement? A recent study suggests that common inositol may be helpful for PCOS and polycystic ovaries.(4)

In this study at the University of Perugia in Italy, 136 PCOS women took inositol (100 mg., twice daily) for 14 weeks. Another group of PCOS women took placebo pills.

The ovulation frequency was significantly higher in the treated group (23%) compared with the placebo (13%). The time in which the first ovulation occurred was significantly shorter (23.6 days) compared with 41.8 days for the placebo group. The number of patients failing to ovulate was higher in the placebo group.

The effect of inositol on follicular maturation was rapid. Also, significant weight loss (and leptin reduction) was recorded in the inositol group, whereas in the placebo group had an increase in weight.

This study suggests a beneficial effect of inositol in improving ovarian function in women with irregular cycles and polycystic ovaries.
I'm currently taking a low dose BCP as I'm in a long term relationship and I find it to have no symptoms (compared with others I have tried in the past). I've tried a number of remedies, such as saw palmetto and NAC.. both of which did very little to help. I also want to give apple cider vinegar a try. so.. what do you reckon?

Can you buy it from www.chiralbalance.com?

As far as I know that's the only place that sells it....

I think the Inositol you can get at the stores might be a good first step; it's certainly less expensive than buying the DCI from Chiral Balance and having it shipped to the UK - though I think they would ship to the UK; they shipped to arcticslug in Canada. Perhaps you could try combining it with a couple of the other treatments and just track your progress with it. I feel like my own personal science fair project at this point!

Hi'ya.

I contacted them about shipping to the UK

They replied:

Quote:
Dear Madam,

We ship globally. Postage is calculated as a part of the ordering process. Shipping to the UK is usually about $60 American, althought this will vary with the location and the type of shipping chosen.

Sincerely,

Travis Johnson

Hope that information helps.

The problem with subing in inositol is that it's a parent compound that has to be converted in the body to D d-chiroinositol phosphate (DCI). That conversion rate is realllllly slow, so you have to take a lot more of inositol to get the same effect. In other words, it will take a higher dose of inositol a longer time to get the same effect as DCI.

thanks guys (especially bmgjarvis!). I just don't think I can afford DCI at the moment.. it's a real shame. I've never taken metformin but just don't like the idea of being tied to such a strong medicine.. I've given it a lot of consideration, even though when I asked my doctor she said she would only prescribe it if I was TTC.

I wish there was a herb out there that really worked (and wasn't so expensive). milk thistle is the only thing I've had success with.. probably only because it detoxifies.

You're welcome, sauerkraut.

FYI. I have been reading the patents for INS-1, the drug name for DCI. Based on what I saw there, they were making DCI by boiling a source (pine bark, soybeans) in a strong acid at about 90 degrees C, filtering the liquid which had the DCI, then adding alcohol to make the DCI fall out of solution. My recipe is take soybeans (pod and all), grind in blender with vinager. Dump in crock pot with 8 x 500 mg vitamin c tablets. Cook on high for 3 hours, hen turn it down to lo for the night. Strain the stuff from the liquid. After reading all of the vinegar threads, I think I'll stop there and start drinking. I'll let you know how it goes.

bmgjarvis, what an interesting post! I just ran across it when I was searching on "vinegar". Is this something that you are still doing and if so, how do you think it is working out for you?

Also do you remember where you came across the thing about possibly making DCI - . Could you proved a link perhaps or suggest words to search on?

I just finished brewing the stuff today. Whoo, what a smell. The vinegar carries. It's cooling in the frigde now. Has a sweet and sour flavor and a green brown color. We'll see. I bought chiral balance's product; loved it; can't afford it right now. $5 on soybeans and vinegar I can afford.

As for where I got the information, it was in patents and a published article or two. United States Patent 5932774 5714643 5463142 on www.freepatentsonline.com

Hello, I am new to this soul Cysters site. I saw your postings on the D-Chiro Inositol. How has it worked for you? What have you heard from others? Were you in the study?

I don't know about the recipes, but I know that I've had wonderful success simply taking Inositol along with Choline for the past 3 months.
