I really believe Inositol is doing something postive, because it plus my other pcos natural supps have kept me from breaking out since going off the pill 2 weeks ago. Plus, I have signs of ovulation....VERY sore, hard nipples and a great increase in vaginal moisture (tmi...I know!). I'm amazed how well these natural supps work!

Pearl: Good luck with re-starting the Inositol - I loved what it did for my depression (not to mention my complexion, menstrual cycles, weight and a few other things). I totally agree that it's frustrating that all the 'good' supplements to treat PCOS always seem so expensive. I was so happy to find a much more affordable alternative (especially considering I was unemployed).
Annas: I'm glad that the Inositol seems to be having some effects.
Thank you everyone else for the congratulations. We had our first ultrasound today and got several wonderful pictures of our little Gummy Bear (though it did look like a duck in one picture...). Also got to hear a wonderful, strong heart beat of 178bpm.

Okay since reading the forums I have recently started some supplements in addition to my normal meds. cinnamon, biotin, probiotic, omega 3 with flaxseed oil and inositol... is there any other's that are very beneficial? I am not trying to conceive, just lose weight and not feel tired all the time... and let me say again that I love reading these forums... great group of people... smart and encouraging.
miller: I'd suggest also adding some form of Choline to your routine, as it is a great compliment to the Inositol. I've taken both regular Choline and the Phosphatidyl Choline, both of which worked fine. Just be sure not to take too much - otherwise your stomach won't like you (safe zone, for me, was about <1500mg/day).
Cathatpalmer: I was taking 1500mg of Inositol a day (500mg with each meal) and between 750 and 1200mg of Choline (it depended on the pills - one brand I got was 250mg each, so I took it with meals like the inositol, another was 1200mg each, so I took it once either with the AM or PM meal). You can definitely go higher than that - I just never got to the point where I felt it necessary (though I may have upped it if I hadn't gotten pregnant lol).
Good luck to both of you

Thanks for the post - I have been reading through the forums the last couple days and just bought a few supplements at the natural market today. I picked up a jar of regular Inositol but put it back because it did not list the D-chiro that I had read about on here. I think I'll go back and pick it up now. Congratulations on the pregnancy!
I just got my Inositol in today I ordered from Vitadigest.com as they had the best price including shipping.......I am going to start it tomorrow and I only pray that I have as great as results as everyone else on this....it took me almost 10years to conceive my first child and I am determined to not let it take that long this time.....I was also only dignosed with pcos about a year ago.....even though I have probably had it for almost 15 years.......

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Are you still taking inositol and choline? or did you have to stop when you found out that you were pregnant?
I have just started taking choline and Inositol and just wondering how safe it is in case of pregnancy.
hey i've been taking inositol now for about two weeks or so. i noticed on a couple days that i forgot to take it, i was experiencing more hairloss so now i am more sure of its benefit!!!!
I have been taking the inositol for about 10 days now and have definately noticed a difference. My face has cleared up and af which just started on friday is done....af was a piece of cake this time compared to the last cycles i have had in the last 2 years. I had slight cramping and it was only heavy for about 1.5 days of it and i physically felt so much better then i have since i was on bcp's....I normally am extremely heavy, lasts 7-9 days, and have a continual dull ache, but not this time......the true test is going to be whether or not i O this month especially since i haven't O'ed in a year and a half.

Lexibelle-
Can I ask what brand you are taking? Also, were you advised to stop now that you are pregnant? Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!
Lexi.... Just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience with choline and inositol. Because of it I started it almost 3 weeks ago and it's been a dream. Af after 3 months, evened out my mood, clear skin, etc etc. So thanks again girlfriend and congrats on your little stinker. Take care!

I believe I stuck with the Solgar brand of the Inositol, though I'm not 100% sure on that one because I moved and I had to change where I shopped. Basically, the main thing I looked for was 500mg/pill and made sure I was getting capsules (you know, like gel capsule filled with powder) instead of tablets. The same goes for the Inositol, though I don't remember what brand I started with - I just made sure I was getting capsules or gel-caps and not tablets.
I've noticed that OBs in general are very anti-herbs while pregnant, which is fine. I'd actually done research ahead of time and found that the Inositol can be linked to pre-term contractions (because of it's link with the production of Oxytocin in the body) so I made the decision to take myself off of it until later in the 3rd trimester. There is *some* information out there about studies being done using the Inositol in pregnant women, but I didn't feel safe enough to take the chance. As much good as the Inositol had done, this pregnancy still feels like a miracle and I didn't want to intentionally do anything that could endanger it.
I'm so glad to hear people continuing to see good results on it. It was such a blessing for me when I started that it's good to see it working for others just as well. I also can't wait to start taking it again. I figure starting it in the 'safe zone' will allow me to see if it really does contribute to triggering contractions or not and allow me to evaluate if I'll try taking it during my next pregnancy.

The inisotol may have been the thing that resulted in pregnancy, but it could have also been the diet and exercise alone...many women get their bfp with a low-gi diet and exercise...just throwing this in there...it takes A LOT of will power and work to do a low-gi diet...good for you!!!
Since I've lost about 30 pounds I've been ovulating regularly, too. First time in my life. I also follow a low-gi diet. Never tried the inisotol...maybe I should to see how it works...

Whatever got you your BFP...Congrats!!!
To be honest, I know the diet and exercise HELPED (which is why I always stress that anyone who wants to try it needs to combined the Inositol/Choline with healthy habits), but the Inositol/Choline combination was the actual key to MAKING those two things work. I'd done the low GI diet and exercise combination before and had absolutely no success. I think the best I was able to do was maintain my weight but never lost and my cycles never regulated. It also never helped with any of my other symptoms.
However, within a month of starting the Inositol (and about a month before I really changed my eating habits and started exercising regularly), my cycles had already begun to change for the better. The spotting I'd had for all of 2008 finally stopped and I had my first real AF in December. I'd also managed to lose several pounds by that point without changing too much of my diet. Not a lot of weight, but enough to give me the motivation I needed to make all the changes I wanted to. Once I did that things progressed even more quickly and I managed to lose the weight and my cycles remained incredibly regular until I got my BFP.
So in my case (and others that I've read), it's not a happy coincidence. The Inositol actually helps with something at the hormonal level that not only helps in regulating our cycles, but also allows changes we make in our diet and activity levels to actually net results.
