I gotcha! Thanks for the info. I know I still need to up the exercise and since my kids are going back to school soon maybe I will have more time to exercise. I added up and I would say I am getting about 150 minutes/week of exercise which surprised me - it sounded like a lot but when I was adding it up, it accumulated quickly! I just don't have the time or energy for 2 hours in the gym every night right now. Someday maybe.
Oh good lord, I haven't been able to do 2 hours a day either! Yes, some people can and I applaud them for it. I *would* suggest finding a way to work up to at least 45minutes a day 6 days a week if possible. An hour 5 days a week would be idea. Also keep in mind it doesn't have to be all in one shot. You could wake up in the AM and do a short 10-30 minute workout before heading off to wherever, a short 10-15 minute walk sometime in the afternoon and then the remainder in the evening whenever you have time. Don't look at exercise as something torturous that you have to fit in - look at it as something as essential as eating, sleeping, taking a shower, etc - and also look at it as time devoted to you and your own well-being.

I just started taking inositol and choline yesterday. 1500mg of inositol and 1000mg of choline. Does anyone know if this could be as effective as d-pinitol? When should I start seeing improvements? Thanks for your input!
CONGRATS on your pregnancy Lexibelle !!! Do you think the inositol had a hand in that?
My update:
I found someone selling the powder on ebay imported from America (great cuz I've read the powder is more concentrated and I don't like pills).
I've been taking inositol powder since the beginning of August. 1/4 of a teaspoon once a day. Not been taking it in vast amounts as I want to see how it effects me first. All the same, I think it's made a difference! My blood sugars seem to be more stable. I'm in a much more positive frame of mind. I seem to be getting AF's more frequently. Could be a coincidence but I do feel it's made a difference.
Anyone else got an update?

StaciMara: Yes, I fully believe that the Inositol/Choline can be just as effective. Actually, if I'm not mistaken the D-Pinitol, Inositol and DCI are all stages of the same chemical. I don't remember the exact chemical path, but I believe the Pinitol converts naturally to Inositol and then to DCI in the body. I really need to find that study. When I started taking the Choline/Inositol combo, I began seeing results fairly quickly though I didn't realize all of them. Within a month I saw my weight loss efforts (diet and exercise changes) having an effect; within two months I had my first real AF which continued until I got my BFP; within three months I realized that my depression was actually improving significantly and I didn't need both the 5-HTP and St. John's Wort to control it. I will say, you definitely have to keep in mind that you DO still need to work for the results. You can't take the Inositol, continue leading a sedentary lifestyle and eating poorly and expect to still see results.
Not-waving: I FULLY credit the Inositol, and the resulting benefits for my success. As I've said, I truly believe that down at the root, the Inositol was responsible for reminding my body what it was REALLY supposed to be doing. Without the Inositol I wouldn't have lost as much weight as I have; without it I wouldn't have begun cycle and apparently ovulating. Congratulations on your success on it so far. I totally understand that voice in the back of your mind wondering if it's a coincidence, don't listen to it. One way or the other it's making your body work a bit more properly than it was prior to starting the supplements. I wish you continued success and hope you see further, awesome results.
I do want to put out a caution for anyone that DOES successfully get pregnant while taking the Inositol - unless advised otherwise by a naturopath or herbalist, stop the Inositol when you get your BFP. The reason is because, apparently, the Inositol CAN promote uterine contractions. On the plus side, I fully plan on restarting it as my due date approaches (possibly in a slightly lower dosage) and then hopefully use it while breastfeeding as it's been shown to help increase milk supply.

Hi Not Waving!
That's great that you found some DCI, I've heard it's really difficult to get in the UK, almost as bad as in Aus. Do you mind if I ask how much the DCI powder was? That's such great news that it's having an effect on you and that you are getting a decent response from a small dose ... I hear most women need 20 mg/kg bodyweight to get a good response. You must be one of the lucky ones. I've just ordered my first batch of DCI from http://www.pcosinfo.wordpress.com but I've only been on it for a couple of weeks, so it's probably a bit too early to tell. I've had more energy though, been waking up earlier and my skin seems a lot softer of all things.
2 days ago I took the last active pill in my Yaz pack and started a natural combo----Inositol, Saw Palmetto, and Vitex twice a day. However I do plan on keeping up the 100 mg of Spironolactone daily.
I just looked and the Inositol I bought is 500 mg, so taking it twice would put me at 1 gram a day. I'm wondering if I should double it? I'm taking the NOW brand that I got at SuperSupplements...100 500mg capsules for under $9!
My main goal is to control my mild pcos naturally. The main symptoms I had before Yaz/Sprio were extreme oiliness, hairloss, and mild/moderate acne. I'm praying that these don't come back. I have been experiencing some hair loss again here recently, but I think it's because my ferretin is slipping down again (was 41 when I got it checked 2 weeks ago)..if my ferretin in below 60-70 I lose hair!
I will keep everyone updated on my progress. I would LOVE to be able to lose some weight from this! I have a stubborn 30 I need off!

You could start with 1,000 mg Inositol and very gradually increase to 2,000. I think to reduce the acne, ect, eventually working up to at least 2 gm is probably your best bet?
Yes let us know how it goes for you!

I will definitely keep everyone updated. After all, that's how I learned about taking these natural remedies...from other posters.

That is interesting that you say low ferretin levels affect you. Mine was 29 when I was last tested and I was feeling rubbish and no energy etc. The doctor I saw said that level was normal but another doctor suggested the levels were a bit low. I have been taking iron for about 6 weeks and do feel a bit better. Do you have any info on PCOS and ferretin levels?
I don't know alot about it, but my endo said there does seem to be a correlation (not necassarily causation) between low serum ferritin and hair loss in women. He gave me a copy of an Oct. (2008?) article in the NEJM that addressed female hair loss and it stated this as well.
I've read in sooooo many places that for many women their ferritin must be at around 70 to have healthy hair. This IS the case for me. I can tell when it dips down because I DO lose much more hair! When you consider that (my) lab range said 11-300 is normal for ferritin, 29 seems low. I can't even imagine 11....I would be the walking dead AND bald! Mine was 24 a year and a half ago and I was losing hair like crazy! I'm shooting for a ferritin # of 75-100. I think you should consider that as well.

Thanks Annas - luckily I haven't had any hair loss that I have noticed, but have had a complete absence of AF and when I did take Provera it only lasted for 3 days. Now I have been taking prescription strength iron tablets I am on day 4 of AF (after Provera) and still going. I googled this early and found an nhs site that suggestested that PCOS women should be tested for ferritin levels and that the body requires a minimum of 50 for pregnancy. If that is the case the range goes down to low (I was quoted a range of 11 to 291 by my surgery). I will get another test when I go for my 21 day bloods and see where I am.
Hi Lexibelle - I just read through this thread because I've been considering DCI and alternative treatments for PCOS. I stopped taking Actos in February and recently had my FP run blookwork as I've noticed some belly fat coming back after I'd lost weight, and a few other symptoms like neck acne and still with the very thin hair issue. Anyway, my question regards the Inositol/Choline affect on testosterone levels and triglycerides. This seems to be what is coming back with me. I don't need to lose weight, but need to exercise - lol! But, my T levels are 40 points higher than when I was on Actos and my triglycerides are about 80 points higher, and my LH/FSH ratio is 5:1. So, I do still have a problem. I don't want to go back on Actos because I don't want to blow out my liver, so I'm looking for an alternative. Have you shown improvement in your testosterone/cholesterol levels? If anyone else has input, please feel free to share.
Thank you and, by the way - congrats on your little bundle on the way. I'm so happy for you! P.S. I live in Central Florida too!

IsabellaGrace (beautiful name btw!): I'm going to be honest, I don't know what my Testosterone numbers were at, but I do know that prior to starting the Inositol/Choline I had super-high cholesterol numbers ... all in the wrong places. I just had my blood re-drawn today and one of the tests included checking my cholesterol - so as soon as I get those numbers I'll let you know what sort of change there was. I should also be able to share info on changes in cardiac function and thyroid levels, if there were any.
Thank you for the congrats I'm actually in N. Central Florida now - up towards Daytona. I used to be down in the SeaWorld area ... I miss civilization, but can't pass up the rent we've got right now.
Annas: Do you have any information on how to improve your ferritin levels? I'm curious because I know I've been having issues with hair loss that unfortunately haven't improved along with everything else. Now, it could just be the Metformin but if not, I'd like to have a game plan for after the baby is born.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm curious to see what your numbers will come back at. I'm going to the lab tomorrow to have the hormone levels evaluated. I'm with you on Volusia county. Way cheaper to live up that way. I'm in the Sanford/Lake Mary/Heathrow triangle and it's so expensive! I'm hoping to relocate down to Altamonte/Maitland/Winter Park with a new job as I'm currently unemployed. Not a good time to be in this situation - 11% unemployment and all, but I'm hanging tough. Keep me posted on your numbers! Also, thanks for the input on the name - it's what I would name my daughter if I had one. I think it's pretty too. Melissa
I used to live in the Longwood/Lake Mary area, but am now in Washington state. What a small world!
I just take iron with vit. C (greatly increases absorbtion) every night to every other night. I did this for 4 months straight before and rasied my ferritin level 30 points! I hope to do the same now.
