Isabella: You're not the only one unemployed - I've been out of work since last September myself. My DH lost his job in January, and just recently got a job at McDonald's that's PT for the moment. My friends live down in the Altamonte area - if we could afford it, we'd be down there too. The job prospects in Seminole/Orange are a LOT better than up here in Volusia. Not that that's saying much when it comes to FL.

Annas: Talk about small world - what part of WA are you living in? My DH and I moved down here from the Tacoma area a couple of years ago and we can't WAIT to go back. Just need to finish school so we'll have a chance at decent jobs when we get back out there. Thanks for the info on the ferritin - I'm on Pre-Natal's now which I know have VitC and Iron in them, so maybe that'll help some for the time being.

I'm in Fort Lewis...about a stone's throw from Tacoma! Very small world!

So I went to the doctor's today, and while I don't have my blood work in front of me - HOLY CRAP!

The last time I had my Cholesterol tested, my numbers were extremely high - not just borderline - this was in November 2009 prior to starting the Inositol. The blood work I just had done yesterday, on the other hand not only showed a marked improvement, but my numbers are now PERFECT. Everything was right where it was supposed to be - well outside of any 'danger zones'.

The same could also be said for my TSH levels - I think the 'range' is something like .5 to 5.0 ... last time I believe I was about a 4.5 - high enough that my doctor was considering thyroid medication. This time, my numbers actually dropped to the 3.5 range. I don't know how much of a difference that makes, but I know it was lower.

My A1C level was also very good, unfortunately my 1hr Glucose Tolerance test results weren't the best. I guess I tested at 130, which isn't in the diabetic range (yet) but outside of the 'normal' range. Sounds like I'll have to sit for the 3hr one in the near future.

Still, I'm very impressed with the improvement in my other numbers - especially the cholesterol. From 'imminent heart attack' to 'picture perfect' in 9 months is pretty darned impressive.

Wow, just wow! That is really awesome lexibelle!

May I please ask if the Inositol was the main thing you did different? My total cholesterol was close to being too high a month ago when I was tested. My tryglicerides were too high. I just started taking inositol a few days ago and I'm excited and hopefu!

CandyJimmyMilly: Thanks for that info - I've got no clue what my ferritin levels are at - I'll have to ask the doctor if they ran a test for that number or not.

Annas: I used the Inositol and Choline in conjunction with PCOS-friendly diet and exercise changes, which is what I encourage anyone trying the supplement to do. In my experience the Inositol/Choline is NOT some magic combination that's going to do everything on it's own. Instead it's a combination that reminds our bodies what they're supposed to do when we do specific things - like eat properly and exercise like normal people.

However, I have done those exercise and diet changes previously in my life WITHOUT the Inositol/Choline and the only time I saw results that were even close to being similar was when I went vegetarian after having a large cyst removed and dealing with a lot of infection issues. However, even then, though I lost a good deal of weight, my blood pressure remained high and my other test numbers never really improved. However that was several years ago and every other attempt since (until I started the Inositol) never resulted in any improvements in health or weight.

Got it. So inonistol isn't a magic pill in that it will make you supernaturally lose weight like crazy with *no* effort on your part, BUT it does allow us hormonally challenged gals to actually lose weight more like normal people if we try.

This is THRILLING news for me. I have mild pcos and I'm hypothyroid so losing weight is VEEEERRRYYY hard. So what inevitably happens is that I get so discouraged that I give up. And a hormally challenged gal that gives up is a fat gal!

I have about 30-35 lbs to lose and want to do it thru a lowcarb diet and these new natural supplements I've started (since going off Yaz last week).

I'm doing.....

***In the morning***
500 mg Inositol
160 mg Saw Palmetto
500 mg B-6
500 mg Borage oil cap
2 cinnamon caps

***Lunch***
A multivit.
extra d
Magnesium
500 mg Inositol
2 fish oil caps
spironolactone

***Evening***
500 mg Inositol
160 mg Saw Palmetto
Vitex capsule (need to check dosage)
500 mg Borage Oil Capsule
Alternate everyother night
---1 calcium/vit d and one magnesium
---1 NOW brand Iron tablet, extra c, bitoin, and lysine (I've read these all
help absorbtion)

Yeah, it's alot and I wish I didn't have to do it. BUT I've gotten over thinking like that ALONG time ago. If doing this helps me feel and look good and normal looking (hey, actually better than normal) then I'll do it. I'll do what it takes!

Thanks for sharing Lexibelle and others! I'm thrilled to have found, or should I say rediscovered this board!

Myo-Inositol is definatly helping me lose wieght. I am taking 4200 mg per day, and my cravings for food have literally almost disappeared!!!! Its amazing! I have lost 2.8 lbs in the last 4 days!

Annas- Your regime looks like it should help you!

Unfortuntly I will not be able to afford DCI after what I have runs out, we have 4 children with mouths to feed, and tons of credit card debt. I am thinking that I will continue the Myo-Inositol, though for now.

Herbsgirl, I also have 4 kids! I totally hear you about not being able to afford it. I'm in the same boat. I can afford the Myo, but not the DCI.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't bump up my dosage. What do you think? I weigh about 162 and though that's not obese, it's definitely overweight and I hate it. Losing 30 lbs would be a DREAM. My dh is currently in Iraq and what a special treat it would be to have lost all my weight when I next see him (April of next year)!

What do you think? Would upping my dosage help?

Wow, you have 4 kids too!!

Yes, Upping your dose of Myo-I will probably help with weight loss. You could try it??? It is for me. I just dont have near as much Ravenous appetite/hunger quite as much as I used to. Myo-I does make me sleepy, I am taking one dose in the evening before bed, after supper, and one after lunch earlier in the day.

I am doing 4000 mg mainly because that was what one of the studies was based on.

link http://www.europeanreview.org/pdf/458.pdf

There was another study with 2000 mg showing good results also, though.

Like Lexibelle, I am trying to lose wieght. The Inositol is magicly doing it. But wow, its making it much easier to lose!

I could up my myo to 2 capsules 3 times a day...that would make it 3000 mg a day. I figure doing that will cost about $18 a month. Still SOOOO much cheaper than the DCI. I'm hoping it works!

Thanks again Herbsgirl. I will be posting often and will report any physical changes immediately! Please do the same! It is so very encouraging to read of others success.

Yes, I will update with positive changes! I plan to continue the Myo-INositol at this time, I know it is helping me lose wieght. 3000 mg seems like a dose you will see results with. You might need to work up slowly to that dose, I guess see how your body reacts to it.

I am still trying to decide whether to go off of DCI or not. It is a hard decision, because I do think it has helped me with facial hair and possible waist to hip ratio. If it has helped with those things, then it probably lowered my androgens, and insulin resistance. When I took a blood test about 4 weeks or so after starting DCI, my A1C was excellent, something around 4.5 ? I know beans and chickpeas both have DCI in them, and that would not be near as many calories every day as the buckwheat would.

Hello ladies,

Thought I'd give choline & inositol a try too. But I'm not sure whether I purchased the right stuff. Lexibelle, could you help me out?

I bought one bottle of inositol (by Solgar), it contains 50 capsules of 500 mg. Seems about right to me. But.. It was a little more difficult picking 'the right' kind of choline. I finally bought choline vegetable capsules (also by Solgar) - 100 capsules of 350 mg. On the side it says though: 'choline (as bitartrate)'. Is this like the stuff you take or do you use a different kind of choline.. And would it matter if I have a different sort?

Pfeew.. Playing medicine woman can get so confusing!

I'm planning on taking inositol twice a day, perhaps work up to three times a day now and then. And choline I guess I'll take 3 times a day.

Another question: Would be unwise to take two capsules of inositol at a time, and then with the choline? I read a story from a woman who had her daughters take similar amounts first thing in the morning on an empty stomach but I know Lexibelle usually takes it with meals. It would be more convenient to take it all at once, but if my stomach gets angry I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.

Wish me luck ladies, I know I need to give it a try for several months and also keep eating healthy and exercise as much as possible, but I'm hoping choline will help with my acne and my thinning hair. I don't have any problems with weight or cravings but if this would help with my pcos symptoms I'd be ecstatic

The Inositol definitely sounds like the right stuff, so you're good there. As far as the Choline, if I'm not mistaken that's the same brand/type that I started with and had no problems with. Currently (well, most recently I should say) I've been taking Phosphatidylcholine (aka Lecithin), which is just a different version of the same supplement. To be honest, the only reason I started it was because we moved and the local health food/vitamin store only had that specific type of Choline on it's own. From what I've read since, it's slightly more beneficial in that it has a higher bioavailability and is actually good if you're exercising. It's also a little less expensive for the amount you get, however don't drive yourself crazy trying to find it. I'd never seen it or heard of it until I had to change stores.

Honestly, unless you're taking the Choline for a reason of it's own (other than as something to help increase the Inositol's effect, I'd take the Choline as much as you take the Inositol (so if you take Inositol 2x's a day, do the same with the Choline), making sure you don't go above about 1200mg/day of the Choline.

As far as when and how to take it - that's completely up to you. The reason I take it with each meal is that since it's supposed to help with hormone and insulin levels, I figured it made more sense to give my body a steady stream throughout the day, rather than one big dose. Kind of the same premise that's applied to things like Metformin or pain medication. However, there have been days where I've taken two pills at once (and then a third pill with dinner) and I didn't notice any adverse side effects.

My best advice is to start out with one plan in mind and just be ready to change it depending on what your body is telling you.

Good luck and I hope you're able to experience some success with it.

Sigh, those were actually the ones I had to choose from: the Choline I ended up buying and the Phosphatidylcholine, lol! Ah well, I guess I'll just finish the ones I'm still stocked up on and eventually may transfer to the Phosphatidylcholine.

Quick question: I was reading the DCI - D-Chiro-Inositol and WOW!!! thread and many women say they got acne breakouts from taking DCI. Supposedly this was mainly around AF's visit. Did any of you experience this as well on Inositol? I'm not particularly looking forward to that part but I'll have to deal with it anyway if it is to happen. I'd just like to be prepared
