Oh Yeah! I'm like the insomnia QUEEN! A ticking clock can keep me awake for the entire evening! Arg! I haven't found anything specifically that helps insomnia besides sleeping pills (which I am terrified to take in case I get hooked and won't ever be able to sleep any other way). I lay in bed praying for sleep, and praying that my daughter doesn't wake up in the middle of the night so in case I do fall asleep, she doesn't wake me up! Arg! My body has become used to three hours of sleep, and as long as I get three, I function relatively ormal. But I'm starti g to wonder if my mental problems can be partially attributed to lack of sleep... Hm. Especially my paranoia. I tend to become even more paranoid when I have had a particularly rough night... Once, a bald man followed me from Walmart to the grocery store and then to a restaurant! Eek! Maybe my problem isn't with insomnia anymore...

You girls should get your cortisol (adrenal) levels checked, it's likely you are running high, it happens occasionally with PCOS, or adrenal tumors, or a few other reasons. It's a good thing to get checked out asap, by a good endo who will do more than 1 test a day (cortisol levels change and are supposed to be highest during the morning and lowest at night so it's important to check at least two, hopefully 4 times a day). Urine tests are not the best, get your doc to do blood serum levels instead of saliva or urine.
There's also a dexamethasone (sp) and/or ACTH stim test to see what your adrenal response is. Ask about it...
This type of thing can be indicative of cushing's disease or LOCAH... both which run alongside PCOS like best buddies.
If these tests come out fine... ask about a sleep study. Insomnia could be related to a sleep disorder that can be treated.

Thank you for posting this thread and for all the advice I have too been suffering from insomnia and having a two year old I am knackered when she wakes in the morning. I have been fed up with myself for not being more active for her, but thanks to your tips I will now go to my GP as I not seeing my consultant until March and ask for these checks to be done.
I wish you all the best, and remember Tommorrow is another day
I have insomnia whenever things are wrong in my life and well, that's been the last five years. The things I do to get around it (since I die without 8 solid hours of sleep) are meditation- there is a simple breathing excercise (clear mind, breathe in peace and joy breathe out stress) that usually works, and if that doesnt work I take a tylenol pm. Just one usually helps me sleep without making me too sluggish the next day. Hope it helps!

I have the same symptoms as you all are mentioning! I is hard to be normal some days when I am so sleepy! I.E. last night I went to bed ~midnight, awoke at 4:00, fell back asleep at 5:30, then off and on until 8:00. WOW. Weekends should allow me more rest. I would love to do a sleep study. Does anyone know if most insurances cover them?

I thinkt he only problem i have with when i take Tylenol PM i wake up the next morning so sluggish and a major headache all day long.. a dr told my mom once, that if you dream, you sleep well, when you dream you are int he deepest sleep well its called the REM sleep, and i maybe dream about 2 times a week so i guess that says something...
