Does anyone have this? What do you take or do to help with sleep. Ill tell a little of what happened. Back in Feb/march I started not seeping good so I thought it was a short phase and my doctor gave me ambien cr. I could go to sleep but couldnt stay asleep. Then my anxiety got terrible and I was only sleeping 3-5 hours even on the ambien CR 12.5 mg. I then went to a psych and I tried trazadone (made me a zombie the next day but not sleep good) then I tried a small dose of ativan(made me groggy for 24 hours). I finally went back to the ambien and it strted working again. It was like my body was always on a huge amount of caffiene yet I was exhausted. After a ferw months my anxiety has gotten alot better and my sleep has gotten somewhat better. I sleep about 6-7 hours on the ambien cr. I want to get off of it though becuase I want to ttc again in a few months. I tried taking half the dose last night and couldnt sleep at all! Has anyone had these problems. Ive had my hormones checked and they are normal. I do get really hot and I am on synthroid but I recently had that checked too and it was fine. HAs anyone had this problem or gotten off the ambien sucessfully?
Back in November 2007 my dad was in a car accident and he almost died. A couple months after that I started having really bad anxiety/panic attacks when I drove at night (that's when my dads accident happened) and I couldn't sleep or I'd fall asleep and then wake up suddenly in the middle of the night. I really felt like I was going to die and even took myself up to the hospital a couple times. There were a few other things going on at that time too and I think my stress was just so built up my body didn't know what to do. I live on a military base and of course they sent me to talk to someone and and this doctor put me on 25mg of zoloft. I didn't want to tell anyone or make it known because even though I'm 27 years old, I didn't want people to talk. Now I don't care who knows and I've gotten a lot better in the past 4 months. I take it once a day at night like around 9pm and get to bed around 10. Sometimes I'll take 1/2 Tylonal PM to help me sleep a little better, but overall I sleep great and feel great since I started taking zoloft.
I wish I could be an a antidepressant. Everyone that I have tried caused worsened insomnia. Now they wont even put me on one becuase of it. Its like if something has insomnia for a side effect it will cause it in me. Thanks

I started to have a lot of anxiety around last Christmas. I thought maybe it was just holiday stress. I went to my dr. (natropath), he had me take melatonin and also this stuff called muscle aid. I was low in magnesium, which can also contribute to anxiety (among other things). They both helped a bunch. I also downloaded some free meditation podcasts for my ipod. They help me relax at night. Plus more exercise has helped a bunch too.
Melatonin
Meditation & praying
Exercise
You are not alone. I have always been a strong person and never considered myself to be afraid of anything. And let me tell you that when anxiety hit me I felt hopeless. Just know that you are not alone. I know it sounds strange, but sometimes even thinking about being anxious makes you anxious. I hope some of this helps you.
I'm new here, but this post caught my eye. I am presently 19 years old, but not for long. I have NEVER been able to sleep soundly at night, not even as a baby. My mother tells quite frequently the story of when I was about 3 years old and both my parents were asleep and it was around 2am... all of a sudden they heard funny voices downstairs and they didn't stop they just got louder and louder. So my dad grabbed this sword we have as decoration and headed downstairs to find little old me blasting a disney video on the tv as 2am! This is when they officially recognized that I'm pretty much a born night-owl. At one point, I was around 10 at the most, a doctor told me since the benadryl had stopped working that they had put me on years earlier they would try melatonin. Well, just like everything else this worked for about a week and then I became immune basically. One night I really REALLY wanted to sleep I was overtired and hadn't had a decent sleep of more than 4 hours at a time in ages... so I took like 8 melatonin tabs. Well, needless to say.. it didn't help. When I told the doctor of this she said I basically took enough to put out an elephant so if that didn't help there was no sense in continuing the melatonin. Ever since i have basically been on my own as far as sleep methods. i relied on tylenol pm for a while but as excessive use of that causes liver damage I hopped back off that train. Now I find that my body needs to be awake for about 16-18 hours before I am even remotely tired. This is a hassle because now I'm a college kid and need all the sleep I can get. Any suggestions, and anyone else with this sever issue?
P.S- Not "officially" diagnosed, but my mother has PCOS and I went a period of about 8 months last year w/o a period, and a lot of hair loss (like a brushful a day--ew) and my doctor and gyn pretty much said I have it and there's no need to test for it.

Reason: stupidity :)
Try getting exercise - yoga especially - and take Magnesium Glycinate at night before you go to bed. It sure helped me! I would sleep far too lightly and wake up often in the night. According to what I have read, better sleep is a common side effect to taking Mag. Hope it helps!
Yes, I used to take just a magnesium tablet, but now I'm taking magnesium (about 250mg) with a glob of natural raw honey and sleeping like a baby. Hope I don't jinx myself here!!

I have the same problem but I think that my insomnia is caused by my anxiety. I have had alot of anxiety in my life for about the past 4-6 months, mainly caused by my job. At night, I would lay in bed trying to sleep but all I could think about was all the crap that was going on at work. Finally, I was so stressed out with not sleeping and work problems that I went to see my doctor. She put me on Xanax to calm me down and gave me ambien cr to help me sleep. It helps alittle but nothing will stop the anxiety until I decide what to do about my job.
JOB

Age~37
Symptoms~started in 1985 Dx~PCOS in 2004 (finally!!)
Symptoms~~Obesity, Severe Hairloss (top of my head), Excessive Facial and Body Hair, Acne, GERD, High Blood Pressure, Type II Diabetes, Hypothyroidism, Depression, Anxiety, Etc.
Medications~~Metformin 2000mg, Byetta, Synthroid, Zocor, Zoloft, and many others
~~~Be yourself and not someone elses idea of what you should be~~~
I have taken trazadone, ambien, klonapin, ativan, xanax.
-The trazadone is what I am taking now and is working great for me.
-The klonapin worked very well but I was having very violent nightmares and the doctor took me off of it right away.
-When I came off the ambien (stopped because I didn't like the way it was making me feel) I went through sever withdrawls and ended up in the emergency room. But my doctor was also a idiot and took me off cold turkey instead of slowly reducing the dosage.
-I'm currently taking xanax for my anxiety. It was obviously not prescibed for my sleep problems but knocks me completely. Over course I don't take the trazadone when I take the xanax. I would be out forever. But xanax are very addicting so if your going to ttc in a few months I suggest you don't start taking it. You have to slowly come off those or you will have nasty withdrawls.
I cannot sleep and have bad depression & anxiety.I havent found anything yet.I'm usually really tired though.For a while caffiene was keeping me awake and i felt great up to 3 energy drinks a day and nothin'.So thats why i am up at 3:22am on a sunday!
Army- have you tried xanax for your anxiety and trazadone to help you sleep? What about ativan for anxiety. I was given ativan in the er for a horrible panick attack that I was having. I calmed me down so much. I felt very mellow. I know they will prescribe it for anxiety. Moms a nurse!
my brain almost never shuts up and i'd love to sleep, i'm exhausted most of the time but it's like i can't let myself fall asleep until i'm so tired i can't see straight
reading keeps my mind focused and quiet so i can relax and rest, but as soon as i close the book my head gradually winds back up to fever pitch again but i can eventually fall asleep
Another thing I found calming is going on a no-TV diet, as in, not watching TV for a few weeks. If you can, don't surf the net either. See if that helps stop so much chatter in your brain.
I had insomnia/anxiety/depression for YEARS. I have been prescribed several antidepressants, xanax, ambien etc and I was a zombie for about 10 years. Finally, when I was 30, I was diagnosed with diabetes. When I started using insulin/metformin and got my sugar under control all of my symptoms just vanished. I sleep ALOT now..probably too much and I don't cry and lash out every day.
I'm not saying that is everyone's problem, but it was definately mine! Hope this may help.
