Talking Insulin-dependent diabetics...what is your bedtime snack???

I am pregnant, (7 mos) and am type 2 diabetic. There are many times I wake up in the middle of the night with low sugar..... I rush to my bedside table and devour my glucose tabs....and then i munch on crackers or an apple, or if I am really ravenous I go downstairs and have a mini-feast of yogurt or whatever I can get my hands on.

What is some of y'all's fave snacks before bedtime to avoid this, and what works for you?
I have found that if I eat something w/almond butter in it, whether it is apple slices w/almond butter, a protein bar with some fruit I tend to wake less in the night w/the hypo symptoms.
Please give the lowdown of the snacks you choose!

Thanks!
~K

Hi there congrats on the baby!!!!!
I am not a insulin-dependent diabetic but my sister is and so is our father. They sometimes do peanut butter sandwhich or icecream with freash berries of some short.
I also now they have had to play with amount of insulin they do at night so they don't have lows durning the night. I don't if this will help you or not But, just thought I would repond. Best of luck to you and the little to come.

My Dad is type I and almost always has a peanut butter sandwich. The combination of protein and healthy fat help carry him over till morning. He has also found that when he has a low the quickest and best thing for him to do is to drink milk. Milk has a combination of protein, milk sugars and hormones that bring his levels back up.
I am still diagnosed officially with insulin resistance, but I try to have a snack before bedtime that involves any type of protein... typically a cheese stick or yogurt.
Hope this helps!
