if you need to know more there is a thread in here called "the IR diet in a nutshell" that is very very helpful! I just thought that the book would be a good one to be added on the book list.

I received this book a couple of weeks ago, but just decided to give it a try. Today is my first day. I rejoined weight watcher's a couple of weeks ago. I have followed it completely and faithfully....my reward...I gained 4 lbs. I believe that my insulin resistance is completely out of control, and therefore weight watcher's just won't work for me anymore.

I'm hoping that it will be possible to lose 100 lbs, avoid developing diabetes, as well as alleviating many of my pcos and IR symptoms.

To Deborah: Weight Watchers, in my opinion (I've never done it but I've watched what "normal" friends who have successfully done it eat and know it won't work for us), is not suitable for PCOS because it allows many carbs/higher glycemic foods. I've read all the books -- Atkins, IR, SugarBusters, Ultrametabolism, You on a Diet, South Beach, etc etc. They are all interesting, but in truth unnecessary. Just don't eat sugar or white foods (bread, pasta, potato). Eat lots of veggies, steel cut oats, lean meats, legumes, some eggs, and lower glycemic fruits (lots of websites will tell you what these are -- berries, cherries, fresh "stone" fruits (peaches, plums, etc.), and some apples and pears. That's really all there is to it. I find it very hard to stick to eating that way but it's the only thing that has ever worked for me.

I'm trying not to get to excited but I just completed my 4th day on this and I have lost 2.6 lbs. That beats the 4 lbs that I gained on WW! It's been extremely easy to follow too. I haven't had any cravings which is HUGE for me...fingers crossed and on to day 5!

I don't follow a very specific diet. I eat under 100 carbs a day and the carbs I do eat are healthy (whole grain whole wheat sugar free bread, peaches, dairy, fresh veggies etc) and I've lost 57.2 pounds so far. It's been easy to stick to. If I crave something full of carbs, I have just ONE bite to get it out of the way. I also eat what I want once a month. I do try to stay reasonably within my carb limit on my "anything" days. Four months and counting. I still have 80 more pounds to go.

HORRAY!!!

I love the once a month day to eat whatever. I tried once a week...but it was too easy to fall of the wagon!
