Default Good Book!

I got this book at my local library ( I like to check out a book before I shell out cash to buy it). I think that I will add it to collection. This book really explains in detail what "eating right" for IR is. Basically, eat fewer than 30 gms of carbs in any 2-3 hr period, and ALWAYS combine it with at least 14 gms of protein. Following this simple rule has helped me beat the doll drums that I used to get every afternoon. It used to be so bad that I'd fall asleep at my computer at work. I've only been following this eating method for about 10 days, but I really like it so far. The book also says that there are no "forbidden foods." Just link-and-balance according to what you want to eat, and keep "junk-foods" to a minimum. Good book.

Default Tried and tested- It works!!

I have read the book and following the diet for 3 months now . Iam happy with the results. I have lost 10 pounds. The instructions are easy to follow and the diet is pretty healthy. The author insists on the following points:
1. Eat smaller meals : 30 gms carbs and 15 gms protein
2. Donot eat carbs without linking them with protein. Thats the ratio of 30: 15 is important
3. Space meals atleast 3 hours. The IR body takes 3 hours to decide if the glucose needs to be stored as fat.
4. Reommendation for protein :cheese, eggs, chicken, beans, legumes.

Before being diagnosed with Insulin Resistance, I ate healthily and worked out like a fiend. Ran some marathons and half-marathons at 170 pounds. Never lost weight. In fact, I was gaining.

And having repeated miscarriages. So discouraging.

I'm in my final month of my first pregnancy (on Metformin, 2000mg/day) and just found this book. I'm a little slow on the uptake with this stuff sometimes.

I can tell you that the linking is ESSENTIAL and that taking in adequate lean protein is the key. The IR Diet is basically how I've been eating while on the Met and it seems to prevent any gastrointestinal distress that usually accompanies taking Met.

It's not so much a diet (I don't like that they called it that) as it is a readjusting of your eating habits to meet your body's IR needs.

Highly recommend it.

I'm about halfway through this book and so far it's a pretty good read. I checked it out from the library, but I'm definitely going to get it off amazon once I have finished.

This sounds like a very good read! I'm going to try and see if I can find this book at my local library. If not, I might just go ahead and order it off amazon. =)

I read it while on vacation and I really hope it works for me because it's probably the most "real world" friendly healthy eating habits I've ever seen. This book proposes something that seems much more user friendly and that eating well is not as restrictive as one might think. Especially for a veggie-hater like me (except for edemame and lettuce).

Thumbs up More updates fromYogagirl

I have been following the principles from " The Insulin Resistance Diet" book and they have been doing wonders for me:
1. Till date I have lost 20 pounds of weight. I was not obese but looked overweight. In my worst case I weighed abot 150 pounds.I about 5 feet 2 inches tall and of Indian Origin
2. My problem was weight accumulation on the belly and thighs. Whatever I did the weight from here never budged. But with the weight loss I feel my body toning. I dont do strenous excercise or workouts and will explain why in my next point.
3.This sympton is very uncommon. But Insulin restance also messes with the functions of teh heels/calf muscles. My legs ache severely. If every morning after I get from my bed and can stand on my 2 feet without shrieking in pain is a miracle. Early- Mid 2008 , I could not walk or stand for more than 5 minutes - teh pain was that intense. So exercise was out of question. However I did some light Yoga and Pranayam. With Metformin and a balanced carb-protein diet my condition has improved. My legs don't ache. I can now work for hours. 2 weeks ago we were in amsterda and I walked almost the whole day
4. Before discovering "The Isulin resistance Diet" book , my diet was pretty healthy - I eat whole grains, lots of fruits/veggies, no white breads, no sugary treats, no soda , no fried food yet I had difficulty losing weight. So I started cutting on portions drastically. That di dnot help. I felt weak and deprived. I became cranky. The point I was missing was - My meals were not balanced. After I ate the same meals but balanced them the weight started disappearing.
5. The concepts in teh book are great but the recipes are limited and not too great. Iam a great foodie. I love to cook as well eat. I have travelled the world and cook a variety of food at home. Over the months I have worked with my recipes to meet the carb-protein balance criteria. Now I don't miss eating my favorite food plus take of my healthwithout deprivation. I had a tough time getting recipes for IR and planning my meals. I am a software engineer by profession and get very little time to cook on the weekdays. I wished there was a source of recipes which helped me plan my meals for the week. I plan to consolidate the recipes and put on a blog so other soul cysters like me can benefit.

I have learnt a lot from this website. If you have any questions or info I will be happy to help.

I'm new on the site and have had pcos since I was a teen I am now 46. My weight has been a problem only in the last four to five years. I have gained 30 pounds in that short period of time. I wondered about weight watchers but was thinking it might not work because of the special diet we need to be on. Thanks for saving me the trouble. Does the insilin diet book have receipes? 2.6 pounds in a week sure sounds good to me. Trust me I am at my wits end. Crying in department stores and throwing your clothes around the dressing room isn't pretty.
