Wow thats a lot of info - thanks! A homeopathic doctor diagnosed me with insulin resistance and low thyroid about 3 months ago, how do I go about getting my fertility doctor to test me for those when he thinks that the homeopathic dr. is a quack?

Hello Kat,

You do such a great job with all the information you provide us cysters. There is alot of info on IR for PCOS, but not very much for us cysters whom are not IR. I would like to request a sticky in the Metformin thread for women who don't have IR. I have a hard time finding any info on the site specific for me. I have traditional PCOS, so I'm not diabetic like most cysters.

Thanks in advance.

Janelle

Default Just started Metformin

Hello,
I never got my period on my own except one year when I was low carbing (south beach diet). Recently we have begun TTC #1. So far, all my "parts" are normal. No cysts. My blood work was all fine except for a recent Glucose Tolerance Test that showed I was IR.
I started Metformin HCL 500 mg (two times per day) on 9/23/07. This past weekend my nipples became so sore. It only lasted for Sun., Mon & Today. In the past, the only other times my nipples where sore were two weeks before I got my period (when I was low carbing it only).
Has anyone esle experienced sore nipples after ovulation? Could the metformin work that quickly to help me get my period?
I am currently not taking any other drugs. I decided to hold off on the the next round of clomid until I see how the metformin works / doesn't work.
Thanks so much in advance for any information!
Vicki

Hello Janelle,

how did you get to know that you do not have IR? I had a blood sugar test in which my blood ugar level is normal but my gyn told me that Asian women tend to show normal blood sugar level although they might be IR. So, i do not know whether I am IR right now. I am not obese, my BMI is 19.6. my lab work suggests that my LH is 13.8 and my FSH 5.0 (follicular phase), other results seem to be in nomal range and my ultrasound result suggests that i have PCO. how do i know whether I have IR or not? If I do not have IR, will I develop it in the future? thanks

Yes I would like a sticky for those of us that aren't IR but PCOS. My PCOS has been no where near the "norm" whatever that is. My reg doc prescribed met, but my RE said I didn't need it since I wasn't IR. So, ya in one of the articles it was saying that all women with PCOS should be treated with met or considered IR. So, ya I'm confused, if my body is using insulin fine, what benefit would the met have on me? Just a few questions I have.......
