Hello. I am just curious, I have been reading the posts on IR, I was wondering how do you know you are IR? I have no idea, I hope this doesn't make me sound stupid. Thanks.

For me, it was a host of symptoms, which you can easily find by doing a search on here or google. Then it was months of trying to convince my dr. that she needed to do more than the usual fasting glucose level test which came out normal. I finally got her to do the, um, the name of the test escapes me. . . Anyway, the test result showed that I am insulin resistant. Read the stickies at the top of this page too. I got a lot of info from them and from searching the boards here. HTH!

my dr has aspecial interest in womens health issues, and after he told me he suspected I had pcos he said he would do some tests to confirm it. Well I had my blood checked for just about everything. Liver function, kidney ,glucose, insulin/glucose ratio, androgens, progesterone,+++ many more. I had read that pcos is closely linked to insulin resistence, but in all honesty thought that there was NO way I had it. My cholestrol, triglycerides etc are all good, I excercise regularly. I do have the typical apple shape though. So I was shocked. He said it was the insulin/glucose ratio that proved it. So now I am on Metformin and I am so glad I found this doctor,my usual dr would never have run those tests so I feel in some way he is my saviour. Who Knows, I would have sailed along , none the wiser, heading straight for diabetes. Its been a fantastic wake up call.
